Why don't GRs count for the speed demon conquest?

So I was working under the assumption that GRs counted for the speed demon conquest and finally got under 2 min (barely 1:58:26) on a GR 90 trying to get the conquest to advance to the next tier for the season and discovered that it apparently doesn’t count. Anyone know why? Is it because they don’t consider GRs to be “max difficulty”?

The description is woefully outdated.

However, I have good news for you. Torment X is way easier than GR90. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

The description specifies “Nephalem Rift” at max level (70) on TX or higher.
The timer starts when you open the Rift and does not end until you speak to Orek.
I actually found it easier on T13 because of higher density and more Elites.
Nemesis Bracers can help this as well.
You also have to fish for a good map.

Just hop into a public game and wait for a nice open map with everybody running in different directions. Once the guardian spawns port to town (unless it’s on you and you’re alone) and bonk on Orek asap. Enough time to return and pickup the keys.

I don’t play Public Games, so I was talking about solo or 2 Player.

Besides being timed differently, GRs are easier than their equivalent difficulty nephalem rifts like T10 vs GR45. Nephalem rifts have less density and monsters are stronger.

So you can do GR90 in 2 min? Good, you can do nephalem rifts faster.

Not really if you’re running a speed build.

Even with a speed build you need a decent map for Speed Demon. For just completing the season journey objective of T13 rift under 4 min essentially any map will do but for Speed Demon you will need a decent map at least. If you get a narrow and squiggly map with bad density which does happen often in rifts, mere speed build is not enough for Speed Demon.

Greater Rifts and Nephalem Rifts don’t share the same algorithm for dungeon generator and monster density. Neph rifts are abit laid back on the same layout where a Greater Rift would grant you more bang for your buck and fill everywhere with monsters. That means you have to mind your movement speed when running through a Neph Rift through usually linear halls and monster spawns can be spread evenly at multiple floors with Shrines all over it. Greater Rifts only have 3-4 Pylons, lots of looping sidepaths and offer you denser encounters for you to best and summon the Guardian.

What you opened as a Gr90, could have been a Gr150 as their algorithm is random. Achievement just asks you to go fast and accumulate progress at Neph Rifts which is a different mindset and provided algorithm than pushing Greater Rifts.

Decided to test, did 10 t16 rifts in a row, fastest time closing 1.14, slowest 1.58, so yeah, I would very much still say that you don’t really have to fish. Yeah, you can fail if you get an exceedingly bad one, but your average rift is under two mins with a speed build.

Edit/ I removed my paragon from Dex to to remove excess paragon from the equation.

I think people are just running slow builds.

I have, many times, “accidentally” helped others earn the Speed Demon just by taking them through rifts.

If intentional, it only takes maybe 3 tries at most to deliberately get the conquest done.

Take in consideration that the progress will be harder due to the less density factor in T-X

Sure, but T10 is just the minimum requirement. It’s been years since I did rifts that low, even with just the “free” set I can usually go higher than that, let alone with a complete build.

Fair enough. but maybe op has not or is just having bad luck.

Notice how OP has not come back.

i’ve been back to read the comments daily. I’d totally forgotten about the bracers that spawned elites when hitting a shrine and after swapping a stat for a speed boost and upgrading a legendary finally got it done, but i work 3rd shift and don’t get alot of time to play so i would look at the suggestions and then go try it again… but with this hurricane i have a couple extra days off work. also thank you to everyone that offered advice.
