OK, I’ve been playing this season for about 90 hours now, and I have collected over 400 million gold. Why?
As far as I can tell the main thing you can spend it on is combining gems and empowering Greater Rifts? That’s just going to take tens of millions not hundreds of millions. Maybe it’s time for a Minus% Gold property.
Oh no! I spent 20,000 gold on repairs. Oh, I picked up 2 million gold lying on the ground during that run. Never mind.
One thing I’ve never understood is this “having too much gold”. Why is having a lot gold an issue? There is no such thing as having too much something.
Also empowering GRs takes hundreds of millions, not mere tens of millions. Or are you just doing GR50s? Empowering GR110 and up takes more than 100 million per run and completion of the GR nets only 1/3 of the investment back. So every empowered GR is a net loss of 2/3 of the empowering cost. Do a couple dozen empowered GR110s+ and you’ve lost a couple billion in gold.

The Mystic can also skin you for millions when you want to get max values on gear.
Another good use of gold is using Boon of the hoarder and Goldwrap belt (combined with Avarice band ring on follower) when running nephalem rifts. The gold makes you unkillable. (Of course this use of gold will net you even more gold).

I burn through a billion gold just doing 10 GRs. Every GR 115 I run costs 129M.
So yeah, there are things to burn it up on. I think I have collected over 20B this season alone. Probably more. Haven’t checked in a while.

400mil isn’t much, really.
However, you can burn it all up on high enough gr levels.
But at some point you’ll have more 150lvl gems than you need. Then gold accumulates again.
Then what? Dunno…
For me, there is no such thing as too much gold.

Empowering high GRs will eat straight through gold.
As examples, GR
130 is 201M
140 is 270M
150 is 363M

Empower 2 GR140s and you will be broke. For 90 hours of game play, you are bordering on bankruptcy and close to being homeless. Make a gold farming build and get up to a 2-5 billion cushion, so it is there when you need it.
No thank you. Build a time machine and go back to launch of D3V. It was tough finding enough gold to repair items, much less have any extra for crafting.

Just FYI, levelling a brand new Rank 0 legendary gem to 125 costs around 1.087B gold, assuming you run all empowered GRs, starting from GR59 until you get your gem to 50, then increasing GRs 5 levels until GR134. (And assuming that you do not die.) Do that three times to get just your equipped gems to a decent rank and you would have burned through in excess of 3B gold, so 400M is nothing.

That 400 million gold may sound too much but actually it’s nothing. Mystic will rip you off around a million for each try at an average for Enchant rerolls. Empowering a single mid-high Greater Rift for ranking gems, cost around a hundred millions.
As you go deeper into the content, the cost of efficiency increases its toll for gold. From what you said, we all can tell that you are way early into the game and thus your expennies are not much.
I’m now wondering how much gold I have actually burnt through. I leveled all but 6 gems from 0 to 65-70 (been going one by one, leveling them 5 levels at a time), and have ran GR115’s for every level of those gems. Yikes. The only gem I didn’t level is the iceblink. The 3 I’m using on the character, then there is the LoD is maxed, the gold gem obviously was maxed a long time ago, and that’s it. The rest…
129M gold for 5 gem levels per gem…
So roughly 1.677 B Gold per gem calculated at level 65, but I have several at 70.
I guess I have collected way more than 20B this season. LMAO
And all that in I think 70ish hours. I would have to check.

Of all the D3 complaints I’ve seen, this one might be top 3 worst.
OP do you like even play D3? You’d know that your 400m gold will be gone in about 3 GR 140s. That amount is nothing. I consider 400m gold to be essentially bankrupt on D3.

I know what you’re saying, but a bit harsh IMO… most people get bored after para 800, so they will never know any Gr 140s… but yeah a pretty lame complaint

Well:
If they’re spending 20,000 Gold on repairs, it seems like they’re wasting most of their time dying. 
with 400 millions of gold i only can empower 1 gr150 wich is 363 millions… only 1 time… i mean i have 300k millions
I realise this is on non-seasonal but the idea’s the same for seasonal.
At some point, gold kind of becomes moot unless you’re non-stop empowering GR150s…
