In case it matters Hardcore Season 23
White items appear to be now ridiculously hard to come by. Early (Paragon < 200 or so) Battlefields of Eternity was great, you could find 300 per run. But now (I’m ~Paragon 500) there’s very few.
The 'ol buy from vendors has been long nerfed.
Kormac’s Quest in Act V was doable just last season but it now appears that I must run the entire game in non-adventure mode. Ya, I suppose I could do that but…
Any suggestions for farming whites at a reasonable rate?
Just buy white items to merchants, then convert dust or crystals into reusable parts

You used to be correct. Today I just bought a pack full of white belts, message, “Items from merchants cannot be salvaged.” Therein lies the problem. Try it, maybe I’m buying from the wrong merchant (Act 1) Adventure mode. Glitch?

Don’t try to salvage them, convert it with kanai cube
any white item, with 100 dust or crystals, gives you 100 reusable parts

Maybe I’m missing something? You used to be able to buy white items, then sell them for about 8 “parts” per item. So if you bought 20 white belts, Hadrig would salvage them and you’d now have 160 “parts.” The in the cube you could upgrade, for instance, 3x (50x3 of parts, blue and yellow. But not today, that seems nerfed. Try it if you would please. Maybe I’m overlooking something.
Just tried it, both recepees 8 and 9 worked fine
recepee 8 to convert dust
recepee 9 to convert crystals

Ah, thank you. The problem is you are pre-supposing that I have an abundance of blue or yellow, but I have no yellow, and no blue. I see what you are saying though, thank you.
I suppose I could pick up pack after pack of blue or yellow items but how boring. It used to be that one could go to battlefields and find 300 each time, last run I found only 5 which = 40
Yes, easy to do if, for instance you had 600 blues or 600 xstls. If you’re out of all three, it’s a different matter.
I see.
When i run out of materials, I like to split farm bounties. Horacric caches contains a decent amount of materials, it might help.

That’s a good idea that I hadn’t thought of, thanks. I just though also, that I could do the challenge rift, that’d help. I do miss being able to do the Kormac Quest, or salvaging whites, or finding a lot in Battlefields. I wonder if this change was intentional, since when I was about 200 Paragon Battlefields was loaded.
Join a public T16 bounty game. Spend 10 minutes collecting five bounty caches. That will net you 450-500 white mats, 450-500 blue mats, and 100-150 yellows, not to mention DBs, souls, bounty mats, and anything you picked up along the way.
Even if T16 is too dangerous for you on hardcore, lower torments still offer a significant amount of mats far faster than hunting for armor and weapon racks in Act V.

Thanks, seems that that’s the way to farm mats these days. T16 is ok where I’m at (~P550) . I might try dropping way back to T6 or T10 to see if Battlefields have better piles of armor.
If you get the Battlefields map in a Nephalem rift at T16 (and probably lower torments too) there should be an abundance af armor piles.

If you have puzzle rings, you can open the vault and hunt for goblins also.

Hit all the armor racks as you rifting for keys. I run Season 23 HC and I have plenty. I never pass up on armor racks though.

Interestingly I tried Battlefields at T6 and there were a whole lot more armor piles, random?
I was talking about the Battlefields map type that you get in rifts (at random), not the Act V Battlefields of Eternity.
There is also temple of the firstborn (the floor before Vidian) that has armaments that drop white items. And normal rifts generate floors with armor and weapon racks that tend to drop white items. There are lots of maps that have them but battlefield is probably the best imo.
Make sure you aren’t wearing a goblin ring either. He will take your white items from you.
