Whimsyshire question

So I got all the ingredients for the SoH in order to sacrifice it on the altar.
I know it’s got a second use, in order to go to one of the two Whymsies. If I use it for that, will I have to sacrifice / use up the staff? Or can I do whymsie and afterwards sacrifice the staff on the altar?
Thanks.

EDIT: Bleh, one of the diablowikis had that info. Only looking at two guides wasn’t enough … :frowning:

It’s enough to have the staff in your inventory when you approach the cow body to spawn the ghost. It’s not used up - in that it does not vanish from your inventory or something.

Thank you! 10morechars

I don’t think you can get rid of SoH, even if you drop it and log out.

I leave that to you to find out.

Follow-up q:
What does one do in Whimsyshire?
I understand the other whimsy is where you get those wings if you’re into cosmetic stuff (I’m not). But what does one do in Whimsyshire?
According to guides it looks like it’s just cartoonish with nothing special to it?!

Most just go for the achi but yes… there are items to aquire.

like what?
None of the guides mention anything special.
Not like the other whimsy.

You search for Sir William, a unique teddy, that drops the rainbow portrait frame.

Thanks!

That WAS actually on the maxroll guide. I guess one goes … colourblind … after browsing too many guides.

WhimsyDALE

A Portal is opened when you kill a Rainbow Goblin. Tons of loot from all sources. Only one instance of Whimsydale can exist in a game session. If you get one, as soon as you loot it and finish your business in that Act, Leave Game and start a new one. Otherwise, you may kill a second Rainbow Goblin, but won’t get a different Whimsydale.

  • Cosmic Wings: Extremely rare. Drops from Princess Lilian, if you can find her.
  • Spectrum Blade (Legendary Sword Transmogrification).
  • Horadric Hamburger (Legendary Dagger Transmogrification).

WhimsySHIRE

Can only be accessed with the Staff of Herding. You must have the Staff equipped or in your Inventory. It will not work if you leave the Staff in your Stash.

There’s a static place, along Old Tristram Road, where the entrance to Whimsyshire is located. If you have the Staff of Herding with you, the Ghost of the Cow King will appear. Talking to him will activate the entrance.

There is very little loot here compared to Whimsydale or any other farming area in the game. The only advantage here is getting the Portrait Frame and 2 Weapon Transmogs.

Note: Once the Ghost of the Cow King spawns you no longer need the Staff on you. If you want to free up space in your Inventory you can teleport back to town and return the Staff to your Stash. When you get back, the Ghost of the Cow King will still recognize that “you brought the Staff with you”  and activate the entrance to Whimsyshire.

  • Rainbow Portrait Frame: Rare drop from Sir William. It’s possible for Evil Oliver and Sir William to both spawn in the same instance (map).
  • Spectrum Blade (Legendary Sword Transmogrification).
  • Horadric Hamburger (Legendary Dagger Transmogrification).

You must have the Staff on you to spawn the Ghost of the Cow King

You cannot Salvage the Staff of Herding

You cannot drop the Staff of Herding

If you somehow end up with extra Staves of Herding, that you do not wish to keep, there’s only two ways to get rid of them. Create a disposable Character, put the extra Staves in their Inventory and then delele that Character. Or,

You can sell the Staff of Herding

It comes with a warning. But, if you sell it accidentally, you always have the Buy Back tab.

Note: The Buy Back tab refreshes if you Leave or Quit the game.

Edit:

Sorry. I forgot to address this part.

Yes. You can farm Whimsyshire and then sacrifice the Staff of Herding to the Altar. Note: I’m sure you already know this, but sacrificing the Staff will  destroy it. So, if you want to run Whimsyshire again, you’ll have to craft another Staff of Herding.

No worries, someone answered that part already.

A few times before, I didn’t know what followed a “everyone surely knows” - but in this case I actually did! The other altar sacrifies work similarly, and there is a warning.
Cheers!

The only thing unique in Whimsyshire is the portrait frame. You can get the Hamburger and Spectrum Transmogs here, but they are also in Whimsydale. There isn’t any other reason to really go into Whimsyshire as the loot isn’t worth it. Whimsydale is basically a relic from Vanilla.

Don’t you mean “Whimsyshire”?

Whimsydale was introduced with Patch 2.1.0, which was Season 1.

Yes, I did mean Whimsyshire. Got too many Whimsy’s in a row and mixed it up.

Yes. I suppose it can  be a bit “Whimsycal”.
