Which class is strongest in the lore?

Considering that Barbarians had mostly lived in the frigid cold and thus build resistance to it and other elements, I would hope that a couple ice bolts did little to nothing to him (and that’s coming from someone who likes mage classes over barbarians).

Indeed, there’s no right answer, as such most answers would either be opininated and/or uncertain (like my own).

Tbf, they were up against Baal. I doubt any single group would’ve done much better at defense than the Barbarians.

In fact, we’ve seen and heard a number of different groups/classes that faced great decimation at either the hands of demons and/or angels.

  • Rogues were driven from their ancestral monastery by the combined forces of Andariel and Blood Raven (plus a bit of Diablo).
  • Amazons had faced some difficulties from the reapers, along with some other issues considering how Tyrael and Lorath hadn’t heard any news from the Horadrim group that was sent to Skovos Islses.
  • The Yshari Sanctum (HQ for most Wizard clans) likely faced some devastation at the hands of Belial as well as Malthael’s Reapers.
  • Paladins suffered greatly from the corruption of the Zakarum at Mephisto’s hand.
  • Crusaders, while not suffering any direct defeats at any major evils hand, had few in numbers at the start of their organization (427), and by the time of their return into the west in RoS, only 341 had returned. It’s safe to assume that like many other classes/clans, they had their numbers even further reduced.
  • Barbarians suffered immense devastation at Baal’s hands (which we all know) as well as the loss of Mount Arreat (along with the Worldstone); the place they swore to protect.
  • Druids likely suffered some casulties at Baal’s forces (albeit not as bad as the Barbarians), then likely further casulties at the hands of Malthaels’ reapers.
  • Necromancers were greatly devastated by an attack from Malthael’s reapers that resulted in the death of Ordan (the Diablo 3 Necromancer’s master), and Jurdann (The Death Speaker of the Priests of Rathma, aka the leader of the group). According to Ordan, the Diablo 3 Necromancer might had also faced death at the reapers hands, if they had stayed and never been sent on their mission by Ordan.

Only the Demon Hunters and Witch Doctors groups (although the Witch Doctor Tribes were in great turmoil) remain mostly unknown; although it’s likely they too saw some form of devastation at the hands of Malthael and his reapers.

Wizardy has no limits.

Well, they don’t let rules, fears, and/or risks dissuade them from pursuit of power and knowledge; as such that would give them great advantage, especially against sorcerors (who do restrain themselves).

Mana says hello! (20 characters worth)

Well yeah, it all depends how you see it. In this cinematic, I always thought that this man was not a fighter but some high ranking official who was sent there to just negotiate and not fight. He was then killed by one of the most powerful beings in the diablo universe. We all saw how he overpowered Tyrael (also one of the strongest beings in the lore) in act 2, even before be got his final form and was just released from his prison, amd he did it in like 5 seconds. This man from the cinematic was just an old messenger. In real life too, messengers were often sent to the opponent armies to propose terms or negotiate and by tradition they were not allowed to be harmed in most cases. The whole act 5 in diablo 2 depends on how you approach it. Some would say that the barbs failed to stop Baal, hence they were overestimated as the great guardians the world believe them to be. Others will say they didn’t do terrible since they were up against Baal, not a mere demon, and managed to withstand and win just enough time for the protagonist to do all these events that led to the final defeat of Baal
