What Wizard set do we need the most?

I could see this being a good option too - a nice replacement for Firebird’s, but separate from Tal Rasha. Would allow Tal Rasha to focus more on multielement themed mechanics perhaps.

I would not like having to place so many same-element skills on the bar though, I think this would enforce a similar limitation that Tal Rasha currently experiences.

Yes, that was the idea behind it.

3 different skills of the same element could work as well, but that might lead to a situation where you have e.g. 3 arcane skills and 3 lightning skills and benefit from both of it.

4 skills shouldn’t be so hard when you think about it. Let’s take Frost as an example:

  • 0-1 Primary Skill: Glacial Spike, Shock Pulse (Explosive Bolts), Ice Blades
  • 1 Main Skill: Ray of Frost, Frozen Orb, Energy Twister (Mistral Breeze), etc.
  • 0-2 Support Damage Dealing Skills: Frost Hydra, Blizzard, Familar (Icicle), Explosive Blast (Obliterate), Black Hole (Absolute Zero)
  • 0-3 Buffs and Debuffs: Frost Nova, Ice Armor, Archon

^^ that would leave two slots for things like Teleport, Slow Time, Diamond Skin, etc. It would probably be great if Teleport, Slow Time and Diamond Skin would also have different elemental runes.

Three skills of the same element could work as well, but I am worried about dual-element might benefit too much.

Not a bad thought at all, mcdundee. If I were grouping more I might be more inclined to say the same. We’re all a part of the community, even if how we play the game is different.

One of the themes that I had cut was for a sound themed wizard. I could definitely see a bard-like wizard producing some really harmonious spells, or a mirror / diamond themed wizard laying down a lot of shielding and bubbles, as you’ve suggested. =)

Agreed, there will likely need to be other balancing efforts made to legendaries, sets, and skills to ensure the new set has a place, but doesn’t dominate all other sets.

I would actually prefer that the set not absolutely dominate when it is first released. This would give us time to figure out the best builds that work with it, and give more data for the balancing efforts.

I think DMO could actually be reworked into a support build. If the looked at the slow time skill and changed the last Rune from a stun enemies to something like “enemies caught in the bubble on cast are pulled towards the centre of the bubble”. DMO with the crown of Primus would be lots of cc, with attack speed increase and defense party wide.

I’d prefer to dedicate LoN to buids who wants to specialize in a single element. Instead of creating a class specific set, I’d prefer general legendaries fit together in ways to make them viable. I know I parrot this a lot, but Rimeheart dealing 400% damage to Frozen enemies could be built around for Wizards, Necromancers, DHs and Barbarians all have Freeze abilities. If Frostburns worked correctly, putting things together like Frostburns + Rimeheart + Eun-jang-Du/Buriza +APDS whose affixes combine into a “mini-set” that allows a Freeze playstyle.

or Frostburns, Rimeheart, Halo of Arylse and Winter Flurry as with Wizards.

This is where I’d like D3 to go, legendaries intereacting with other legendaries seemlessly to create powerful builds, enabled by LoN/LoD.

A channelling set.

We have these sweet supporting legs (Deathwish, Hergbrash’s Binding, Mantle of Channelling) and no set to speak of.

Rimeheart, Halo of Arylse and Winter Flurry occupy slots that are ordinarily not used for sets. The only item that occupies a set slot is Frostburn (and also Magefist for fire builds), so eventually this Element Specialist Set for the Wizard could have a ring slot instead of gloves or you do it the old fashioned way via the cube.

You know, there are not many legendaries that occupy set slots that are revolving around increasing elemental specific damage (and I don’t mean procs like Thunderfury).

I’m not sure what you’re trying to say here. Sure, Blizzard could make a “Cold” for for wizards, saying every Cold Skill equipped did 2000% damage and 15% DR, but I’m saying I’d like non-class specific legendaries interacting to make LoN single-element themed sets viable.

Though god knows how’d they’d make LoN builds work with Lightning to work with :stuck_out_tongue: Thunderfury and Thundergod’s aren’t going anywhere.

It would not be cold-only set, but it would give xx% reduced damage taken when you have 4 skills of the same elements equipped and also give you xxxxx% increased damage to that element.

So it would adjust to whether what elements you specialize into.

I don’t think there are so many non-class specific legendaries that revolve around a single element in the game. Starfire comes to my mind spontaneously as a legendary that has an ability that buffs lightning damage (not just a lightning proc like Thunderfury), but that is a Wizard wand.

If dmo offered a generic damage buff just for having a slow time bubble active, it’d probably make a good channeling set.

And it needs Disintegrate added to the skills that the set buffs.

Normally I would agree, clueso, but instead of adding all channeling skills to DMO, they should just change DMO to “increases the damage of signature skills and arcane power spenders by XXXXX%”…

In the end, I’d be happy with a set that does something like this:

2 piece: Mirror Images last forever and cast the same spells you do for 50% damage.

4 piece: Every Lightning, Cold, or Arcane spell equipped increases your DR by 15% (Stacks up to four times.)

6 piece: Every Lightning, Cold, or Arcane spell equipped increases your damage by 2000% (Stacks up to four times.)

I am just trying to make formerly useless Legendaries work in a an LoN set.

yeah, me too.
and then let your damage and defensive buff be active when you have a tible bubble active.

Would go a long way, but honestly, if they just had a Slow Time Rune that the bubble followed you around, DMO would be pretty sweet to play. It’s the bubble laying that sucks. So, change “Time Shell.” so that Slow Time surrounds you, like Archon.

And it’s done.

I would like to see a Legendary or Set that boosts Energy Armor.

I would love for our armor skills to receive the passive/active treatment.

This ship sailed, I think. I’d be happy for a “Fire” teleport/Frost nova rune.

It probably has, but I still find myself hoping for it among other things.

Also what about a lightning teleport rune?
