My question will be quite straightforward. Is that really easy to clear a solo 150 as monk? Or still, you need a lot of fishing?
I’m asking this, because before the season starts, there are a lot of videos/guides, saying this will be the “150 for everybody” season.
And I can see some para 1.2k clear a 150, with only decent stuffs.
Now, the problem is that my para 1.7K and me, are struggling to beat a mere 144… Can’t even go aughild because I’m too squishy, and lefebvre+spirit guard are fine but I feel lacking a bit of DPS.
So… for everybody who made it through the 150 (I’m talking about the 1.5k - 2.5k, not about people over 5k ), please give me some feedback. Can you really clear with any kind of map even the worst ones (dalghur sewers, tunnels…) or still do you need a good map like woods to be able to beat it?
PS: I assume of course that all the tricks and the skills orders are mastered, to maximize the fire nuke window, i.e. for people who know to play monk
It’s not going to be easy. First thing is that the soul shards were nerfed quite a bit before going live. There was an official nerf in the second part of PTR where the content creators still said that most builds could still do gr 150. But then the shards were nerfed again before going live.
Doing 150s will, to my knowledge, require good maps and good monsters… and good pylons
As a monk you don’t want too many illusionists, shielders, wallers, juggernauts and other annoying elite packs that are hard to get a grip on.
Spot on from Jazz. Pay attention what are ideal mob/affix and maximise pylon usage too.
Lefebvre + SG is indeed tanky but it’s also restrictive. You need to cyclone every 5 secs and punch every 3 secs to main the stacks, both disrupt flying dragon or shenlong cycles. While stricken is handy, since mk is such as strong SINGLE target dps, taking stricken off is an option if not going for time attack (which requires better maps/mobs). Its strongly recommended taking Augilds no matter how low your paragon is and can option for esoteric gem to tank elite affix if needing to. Ofc, best option is to take stricken or powerful and learn how to manoeuvre through affix during off cycles.
Control your cyclone usage. While Binder of lesser gods proc regardless on CC immune or not, you want to control dangerous elite KB resistance. For arcane and molten, you can option to cyclone your target out of dangerous areas, not so much if they are immune from over CC(Knock Back in this case). Ofc, cycloned mobs are unable to attack for short period of time. How to balance it is personal.
Pushing on low paragon is fun, you rely on techniques and attention to details as well as creativity oppose to raw brutal face rolling. Enjoy the runs and good luck.
I cleared everything up to 148 at 2k paragon in 1 key. 149 went down pretty easily (took me a couple attempts, but went down in <10 keys), 150 was a bit of a struggle. Went back and farmed a bit more, got one or two upgrades, came back at 2.3k paragon, swapped a defensive passive for an offensive one and tried again. Took me something like 30-50 keys total on 150 (10 or so at 2-2.1k, then another 30 or something at 2.3k).
I could generally stay even on decent mob types on okay maps, but I’d be like 11-12 minutes in, a bit ahead of the timer, due for a pylon spawn and be like “yes if this is Conduit or Power it’s over”, check a pylon spawn location and get a Speed or something. I actually found it kind of frustrating to push because I’d invest 10-12 minutes (spawn a bad pylon while a bit, but not enough, ahead at 75-80%) and then get burned by a wrong pylon spawn. Happened 4 or 5 times before I finally got a good enough Conduit to spawn to buy me enough time to kill the RG.
I think I made a few bad decisions along the way to fight elites I should have skipped that cost me some clears on earlier attempts. I imagine with better play I could have done it earlier.
Running with Lefebvre’s + Spirit Guards as well, I found the Aughild setup WAY too squishy for my taste.
My gear is decent but not superb. My gloves and weapons are missing some potential DPS stats. Could probably gain another tier of damage or so from better rolls in those slots. But in the end, I didn’t need it. (I’d like all res pants too but it’s only toughness)
Will probably go back and try and get a better time at some point (my clear was 14:57). Should probably wait until I get some upgrades to my gloves and weapons, but I probably won’t invest much more in terms of materials for my monk. I have a bunch of wizard pushes I want to do, and that’s where most of my materials will probably end up.
Thanks all for the input.
@BoBo521 : a lot of valuable tips I never thought of. I just don’t understand why (and didn’t know at all) that punch and cyclone break flying dragon proc?
Removing the stricken for esoteric? I’m not sure I’ll be able to bring the RG down without stricken. So far, it takes me 2-3 fire cycles to kill a 143 guardian.
And well, since I just looted a primal perfect inna boot, I guess the RNG wants me to go Aughild. I’ll try then but I guess it’ll be a real challenge running around trying to stay alive while waiting for the CoE physical cycle. Generally I start to stand still and punch in serenity in physical, inner sanctuary at cold, and then nuke at fire. The other problem I have is that most of the time when I turn fire, the shard’s pet count drops down to 0, hence no buff bonus. I don’t know how to manage that…
@TinneOnnMuin: I guess your skills are far beyond mine, to clear any map up to 148!
Edit: what would be the perfect affixes for monks? I try to avoid freeze, arcane, and illu, and anything that runs away
I don’t think you can use Inna boots with Aughild’s for push. You need Crudest boots on and Bindings in cube…
(You may wanna watch one of Raxx’s latest videos with tips on the rotation. Wudijo also has something on monk).
Actually I can. Crudest boot to cube, wearing binding bracers, Aughild shoulder+helm and that’s it
Yes I saw their videos too. But they’re world top players, maybe their advices in maxroll.gg are more suited for skilled players though, aren’t they?
FD lasts 7 secs and its internal CD is 5 secs after last expired. You really want the ICD 5s to end lightning / phy somewhere and have it proc during cold and last through fire.
W/o augilds though and were your rotation max dmg? FYI, if you are using serenity, the CD dont count towards terror until its effect has expired, so you have to pop it in phy/cold 0 latest.
Att spd for pets is snap shotted so make sure you reach max att spd at point of casting MA.
Yes, I always pop serenity in phy, to be sure it’s on CD. Sanctuary would follow on cold.
As for the nuke, I was badly unlucky (or unskilled) because the pets count was dropping at 0 everytime I reached fire. And somehow, some MA didn’t blew themselves, no clue why. I remember when I broke the 142, I almost one shotted the boss, thanks to the pet count being ~95-100, and all of my MA kamikaze-d Perendi.
I’m speechless. Finally got a nice map, good mobs, power and conduct. Thanks to Blizzard, 3 elites were bugged… Killed them to 0 hp, then they come back to half full. WTF.
By any chance they were Morlu Warriors? When some entity is bugged they stay nearly unkillable (perhaps Frailty Curse is an exception) and becomes irresponsive instead of healing back to half health. Also don’t worry. Inna Monk combat flow can be ruined by many different things. Missing a cycle and some Elite abilities that halt your pets/clones like Waller and Jailer included.
I cleared my 150 yesterday with paragon ~2680 … I did a few tries and all my GRs before with not that correct rotation. I strongly recommend the youtube vid by Raxx explaining the rotation in detail. I watched it and bam 2nd try 150 and clear. Of course map, monsters and pylon spawns and usage is a thing too. I use(d) aughilds btw. Keep trying. polish your gear and gameplay. Its possible
Yep, Morlus are pretty horrible or Inna Fire Ally. Unless your allies manage to punch them to death, they generally will have healed back up by the time you get back to fire cycle again. Your damage rotation is longer than their stone form cooldown.
I don’t always nuke right on fire cycle, sometimes you do, sometimes you wait another second or 2 before nuking…Open inventory to watch for damage increase when Flying Dragon proc, also Pay attention to dregs of lies stack, run away from mobs if stack is getting too high nearing fire cycle. Nuke timing make big difference. Also stand still for Endless Walk to build up just before nuking. Yeah, this aint the easy mode firebird Wizard of last season, lots of things to pay attentions to haha.
oh no no no, I absolutely didn’t mean that at all. I’m not a braggart, definitely just a humble player trying to improve my skills and push to the max. It’s just that people shout everywhere this season was going to be “easy” to get 150, and I saw low para do it, so I was just worrying not being able to do something that is supposed to be “easy”. Hence the post.
And yes got 3 morlus elite in a row. Didn’t know they could heal to half life, so this is not a bug then?
And thanks for those tips. I must admit I rarely wait 2sec after fire to nuke. Because I’m taking heavy damage even with inner sanctuary in cold. So I just nuke and dash away to heal. Just tried Aughild. Boosted my dps but horribly squishy. I must learn how to handle this. Indeed I got so used with firebird tankiness -_-
Ok, so if I got it right:
I must train my eyes to control all the 5-6buff icons… pfew
better skip elites with affixe that can break my rotation
be ready to delay the nuke depending on the dreg of lies pet count
