What is a "pet"

I got the game about 3 weeks ago and i still dont know what a pet is. Yes there is the obvious pet that i see follows some players around. I play crusader and i know hte phalanx dudes are pets cuz the wiki said so, but pets are described as AI controlled. So is Heaven’s Fury a pet? That beam has a duration and is AI controlled, which is the same thing as phalanx. (i think?) But also the follower doesnt count as a pet even tho that is AI controlled?

If someone could elaborate that would be great.

First, one must distinguish from the “Pets” that are purely cosmetic - the non-combat, gold-picker-uppers, like The Mimic or baby Mephisto. As they are non-combat, nothing enhances them though, I think gold pickup radius does help with their vacuum power.

The list is basically “anything you cast/create that can target enemies on its own. Sometimes, they will also target what you do.” This can include things generated by weapon effects (Maximus) or the skeletons procced by the legendary ring (forget its name.)

However, some things don’t get all the benefits of being a “pet” even though they do qualify above.

I’d love a full actual list but haven’t found one.

Same here. Even creating a set of rules to define them in this game is very difficult.

It is easier to get an answer to “Is XXX defined as a pet?” than to try to compile a list of pets or define rules for them.

Usually, allies with damage multipliers on gear are pets, but not always…

ok thats basically what ive been seeing as i researched this. lots of inconsistencies with this definition. Thanks.

I guess I’ll ask specifically is Heaven’s Fury a pet?

No. No more than a Wizard’s Blizzard or Meteor are pets.
