What can't my char be named "Grey"?

Why do i get “Code 316002” (This name contains restricted or inappropriate words), when i try to name my char “Grey”?

Thank you.

Perhaps because it sounds similar to a word that describes people of a certain orientation?

Such an odd word to blacklist.

Unless that 50 shades movie has made it a dirty word to extreme SJW’s?

I agree that some of these restrictions require explanation. I can’t even use a real name, my son’s name, “Lincoln”. I don’t understand how this is offensive?

Not sure. (Abraham Lincoln?) You’re playing on the Americas Region. (I assume your son is too).

I just created this temporary Demon Hunter and named her “Grey” with no issues.

I couldn’t find any Character Naming Rules for Diablo III specifically. But, this is from World of Warcraft Support:

Character Naming Rules

When choosing a character name:

  • The name must be between 2-12 characters long.
  • Accented characters are supported.
  • Numbers and symbols are not supported.
  • Mixed capitals and spaces are not supported.

All player-made names must follow our Code of Conduct.

Additional Rules for Role Playing Realms

World of Warcraft Role Play (RP) realms are intended to provide players with an added level of immersion in the game world and must avoid being disruptive to the world. Examples of common unacceptable or disruptive RP names include (but are not limited to):

  • Non-medieval or non-fantasy names (For example: Slipnslide, Robotman, Discoinferno)
  • Names that reference well known people, characters, brands, places, or icons (For example: Britneyspears, Austinpowers, Mcdonalds, Georgewashington, Newyork)
  • Names that consist of multiple words (For example: Inyourface, Welovebeef, Howareyou, Sixtyseventy)

Blizzard reserves the right to assign a random name to any character violating our RP naming policy. For more severe or repeat violations, we may apply additional penalties to the account.

I would think the Character Naming Rules would apply to all Blizzard Games.
