Does anyone think Blizzard will do a special deal again like they did with Diablo 3? Commit to buying a one year sub to WoW and get Diablo 4 free plus a mount in WoW.
I really doubt it. But considering the abysmal WoW subs these days, it actually would make a lot of sense to do it. More than it did the first time around.
I hope they do it
However, if MS want to bring D4 to Game Pass, they might explicitly want them not to do such a thing.
If monthly sub is still 14.99 month, 13.99 and 12.99 if you buy months of time all at once, I don’t see why not. It’s been a while, correct me if I am wrong. 12.99 x 12 = More than D4 + a mount. Heck, even if they have ultimate collector’s edition for D4, it still won’t be as much as a year of WoW. Oh yeah. I see Blizz doing that for sure.
I highly doubt it would make anyone resub to WoW though.
100%, during the public beta, and maybe, if you’re lucky, part of Act I but I give that a very low chance of happening.
Yeah, the likely low effect is part of the reason I doubt they would do it. Still, if merely a few hundred thousand did it, it would be a big boost to their sub numbers.
Some people would definitely use the opportunity to give Dragon Isles a try, and get D4, at the same time. But probably not a lot.
Unlike in D3, the potential benefit for Blizzard would go both ways this time however. Getting someone to play WoW, based on their interest in D4. But also, get someone to play D4, based on their interest in WoW. Which would matter this time around, due to all the MTX in D4. Handing out D4 “for free” to people who are already subbed to WoW anyway, could still generate some D4 income from that person.
Who knows… they might even make D4 F2P if OW2 (and PoE) is a success.

Those kind of deals are reserved for when the game isn’t selling much anymore, like what they did with SC: Remastered and Twitch not too long ago.
Diablo 4 will sell like hot cakes at launch, so they’re NEVER going to give it away as part of a WoW sub deal. They’d lose way too much money.
I mean yeah, maybe when a few years pass they will like make you a special deal: buy or pre-order a new xpac WoW+something else for a very “reasonable” price and get a freebie(d4) as a bonus.
The thing is that as OP said “Commit to buying a one year sub to WoW” is worth it for blizzard, they will earn much more money. It costs them relatively speaking nothing to give you a free copy of diablo 4 (considering the fact that the mtx’s are gonna be pretty real in this game and another HUGE source of income for blizz). But…
Don’t forget that as you’ve said commit to buy a wow year sub. These players are very valuable both gameplay and money wise. I can easily bet that a year wow sub will beat D4 price.
It is a good deal for players who would play both games, so I’d say, why not? We or I don’t know what will blizz do but under these circumstances as I’ve mentioned before it costs them nothing to give you a free D4 copy after you apply for year wow sub.
So possible, but not immediately on release I’d say.
sorry for long post.
TLDR - possible.
Thankfully I’ve farmed enough tokens from WoW to have over $100 Battle.net balance so D4 won’t cost me anything.
I found the Diablo 3 offer. It was in Oct of 2011 and Diablo 3 launched in May 2012. If they are planning on doing it again the time is near. Sign Up for the World of Warcraft Annual Pass and Get Diablo III Free
zero chance. they plan to give early access to people that buy the most expensive version of D4.
One disadvantage of this is that partly may happen what happened with D3 and D4 may be designed too much to appeal to those WoW players instead of people who want an ARPG. Even if this had not been the case, it certainly gave a lot of disappointed D2 players loads of fuel why D3 was so little of what they had asked for of a Diablo game.
D4 with D3 and D:I also as part of the franchise history will already have enough trouble to appeal to all past players of different instalments of the series. Targeting or seeming to target WoW players however good a deal it might seem to be commercially may well backfire.
