What am I doing wrong Blood nova build

I’m using Trangs and while my damage seems decent, my health just absolutely melts, I have like zero survivability. Diamonds slotted in gear. Any help would be appreciated.

  1. Change your belt to Dayntee’s binding which is a decent Necro belt for damage reduction since you use frailty curse. The one that you currently have offers nothing.

  2. Alternatively, you can try the Guardians set. It works really well with Tragoul’s. Especially early on. It is crafted by the blacksmith, so you need the plans and the Ring of royal Grandeur.

  3. Get more paragons. Optionally, put some points into Vitality, because it scales really well thanks to the nature of the set. But don’t overdo it, most should go to intelligence.

  4. Find better gear (ancient) with the correct stats. Look for the maxroll guides to see what stats you should have in every piece of equipment.

  5. Augment your gear with intelligence.

  6. Use armor or vitality gems on chest and pants. Diamonds offer all resistances and you get those with your main stat which is Intelligence

  7. Make sure your bone armor is always up. It gives another 30% damage reduction. If you use Scythe of the cycle, every cast of Nova depletes the duration of bone armor so you need to cast it more frequently than usual.

Thank you for the info, I’ll give some of that a go.

This comes a little late, but you didn’t actually tell if your health melts when mobs hit you or when you hit the mobs. Previous suggestions were for situation when you have problems when mobs hit you.

If you cast blood nova manually, then your health melts. You should equip Iron Rose and use Siphon Blood. Blood nova will then be casted for free.

Yes, I was using siphon blood, but my health was still melting. My current setup is better, but still feels squishy.

If your struggle is with survivability rather than damage, you could drop one of the three cubed weapons, put a Ring of Royal Grandeur in the vacated Cube slot, and equip the Mantle of Channelling (gives 25% more mitigation whilst using Siphon Blood) and two pieces of the Guardian set. Due to the RoRG you’ll still maintain the 6-piece bonus of the Trag’ouls set, but you’ll also get the 3-piece bonus of the Guardian set which gives a huge bonus to your INT (and therefore damage) and VIT (and therefore your health pool).

You’ll also get more EHP (Effective Hit Points) if you put Rubies or Emeralds in your Chest / Legs, as these provide Armour (a mitigation type you will be naturally low on, as your main stat - INT - results in All Resist). As an example…

If you decide to stick with your current setup, I’d suggest swapping out the Esoteric gem for Zei’s as the 20% chance to stun on hit procs both your Parthan’s and grants the extra bonus conditions for your Krysbin’s Sentence to give triple damage (rather than having to rely on Bone Armour / Dislocation).

Some more hints about gearing:

  • It’s a good idea to use Ring of Royal Grandeour. You get Guardian set (belt + bracers) + one extra item.
  • If you are struggling at all with surviving, best option for that one extra item is Aquila Cuirass for constant 50% dmg reduction - you are practically all the time having full essence.
    • Mantle of channeling is an alternative with less dmg reduction and relatively small dmg boost (compared to any other necro item). In my opinion use it only if it doesn’t affect your ability to stay shooting and do dmg.
  • It’s not adviced to use Convention of Elements with RORG setup. You have better dmg options for weapons for all cube slots (they have at least 200% dmg bonus all the time, when CoE has 200% only 1/3 of the time) , and Krysbin + RORG take both of your ring slots. You better wear + cube totally 4 weapons: Bloodtide Blade (cube as it’s 2 hand), Funerary pick, Scythe of the Cycle and Trag’Oul’s Corroded Fang. Wear the best 1 hander you have and use others from cube.
