Can someone tell me what is the use of glowing ore, please?

Google: diablo glowing ore

Diablo fandom wiki says it contains obsolete content.

It’s fifty thousand gold. Sell it.

Funny thing is, Glowing Ore was a legendary/rare material back in… ugh, 2014 or so. Dropped from a unique monster in Battlefields of Eternity, hence the flavor text.

Prior to it’s removal from game (= revision of blacksmith plans) it was a required craft material for Cosmic Strand. That’s why I thought there might be an unannounced secret crafting plan or cube recipe that requires this.

Fun fact - they wrote coal (Glowing Ore)… the German word for coal is “Kohle” which is colloquially used for cash or money in general.

Well that is a neat fact!

That is what I did. I hope it is not used for anything later!

I only have 6 but I’m saving them in case they serve some special purpose later. Probably not, but I don’t really need the gold and they don’t take up much space.

I doubt it. Unless Blizzard is deciding to bring it back.

It was a Legendary Crafting Material when D3 was first released. As of Patch 2.0.6 it no longer drops.

Like Griswold’s Scribblings, which can still occasionally drop, and as @Zymurgeist stated, they (Griswold’s Scribblings and Glowing Ore) can be sold for 50,000 Gold each.

I have heard that it is a consolation for when the gift would drop an item you already have. So once you have collected all the item drops, you will always get the glowing ore if an item was supposed to drop.

Not sure if this is factual, but it’s a cool story.

A coal story at least

Yeah,

Guess what I did just before the Holiday announcement. I’ll give you a hint… the best way to farm goblins is?

It puts the ore on it’s skin, else it gets the lag again.

it’s just a placeholder for a rare drop. that’s it. maybe you get it if you already have the pet or wings that were supposed to drop? I am not sure on that part.

Has anyone gotten a pet or wings they already had?

I think you are correct. I haven’t gotten a duplicate item yet.

The article clearly states you cannot receive a duplicate of a pet or wings that you already have. You can receive a duplicate of a white (common) item used for transmog such as the Quinquennial Sword, but not a pet or wings.

Don’t think its a placeholder because I received ore before pet. Still no wings. (Sad clown face).

You are correct. The ore drops instead of the duplicate pet or wings.

Yes, that’s most likely the case…

I would still keep/collect them since, well, who cares about 50k gold? You can always sell them once the event is over, but devs are all servants of hell and evil by nature… they might reveal something three days before the event ends. If I were one of them, I would do something demonic like that

Well - I just got 4 of them. Did not even know they existed. LOL

Funny story, the ore just dropped for me on a seasonal character….I’m very confused right now because every info i find of it says it’s removed
