Unlock Altar QOL features through Season Journey for S29?

Hi All!

I get it that we won’t have the altar of rites for S29. S29 is supposed to be different and a new start with a new seasonal theme. We’ve also had a really long S28 (which has been great, the best so far for me).

But for sure, it will be extremely regressive to go back to the game without many of the important QOL nodes which were introduced in the Altar. We really need those! Especially stuff like Auto-pickup and salvage whites/blues/yellows, (and many others)!

So, while many of us would like to have the Altar for S29, if the devs maintain its decision NOT to have the Altar, then instead of unlocking all the QOL features through the Altar mechanism, players should be given a way to unlock at least some of the QOL features in S29.

And here, my suggestion is to do so via the Season Journey. Ie, at various stages of the season journey, some of the important QOL features can be unlocked together with the regular season journey rewards.

What I have in mind is something which looks like this:

Chapter 1: Regular Season Journey rewards + [No level Requirement]

Chapter 2: Regular Season Journey rewards

Chapter 3: Regular Season Journey rewards + [Auto-pickup & salvage]

Chapter 4: Regular Season Journey rewards

Slayer: Regular Season Journey rewards + [Resource on Crit]

Champion: Regular Season Journey rewards + [+1 Progress Orb]

Destroyer: Regular Season Journey rewards

Conqueror : Regular Season Journey rewards + [CC Immunity + Passability]

Guardian: Regular Season Journey rewards + [Double Primals / Triune Circles / Double Kadala legendaries / whatever, just a suggestion]

I think the above can be a fair way of activating the QOL features for S29 - at least the most important ones.

We’re not trying to reinstate the entire Alter for S29 (given that we’ve just had a year of playing S28 and we are looking for a new seasonal theme); and we are not trying to get these QOL features for free either. So players still have to work in order to get the QOL features.

The technology should also already be there in the game to unlock each of the QOL features via a ‘trigger’ which in this case instead of the relevant offering to the Altar, is the fulfilment of the season journey condition for the relevant stage.

I hope the devs can consider this idea and it would be really great if this goes through and be implemented in the game!!

If you folks like this idea, do upvote so it gets the attention of the devs.

Not to play the devils advocate or anything… But I believe the devs want this last season theme to be tested without the Altar, for the sake of collecting data throughout the season to see what impact this season theme has by itself.

Yeah, the Altar of Rites was a great season theme, I feel it’s worth the wait of one season without it before it becomes a permanent addition.

Leave season 29 the way it is the altar will be back in S30. People will survive without the Altar for one season.

Yes, that’s why I’m focusing on suggesting the QOL features to be unlocked. The last one [Double Primals/etc] is there for illustration as the final unlock; it can be whatever.

I know what you’re suggesting, but it would have the effect of skewing the results of what impact this seasonal theme does by itself.

It’d be like trying to figure what amount of a certain type of less favorable food can sustain an ant farm at a certain population, while there’s an infinite supply of a more favorable food available to the ants. You won’t get an accurate result.

We are like the ants, and Blizzard is conducting an experiment. They know the Altar of Rites was widely popular, which is why they must remove it for this final “new” season theme in order to let it stand on its own to see how many ants come take a nibble or two.

You claim to talk about QoL only yet you mention enormous toughness buffs (CC immunity and passability) as rewards.

You just have to survive one season without the altar, as it will be a permanent addition to the game from S30 on.

It would be easier to just add back in the altar than to code up specific QoL features to be unlocked from something other than the altar.

Just play this season… get to P800, push a little, and then move on to something else whilst the devs collate their data so they can balance the altar for permanent addition.

NS will be in a great state afterwards for play during maintenance mode… and all seasons going forward will have the altar too.

I’m actually totally fine with going without those auto pickup and other QoL nodes for a season. Just really going to miss that awesome movespeed one…
