Uncapped movement speed

At what point do you just uncap movement speed at a base level? Just make it so boots and the random items with movement speed rolls can actually be used. What’s wrong with 66% movement speed as opposed to 50%? Especially at the cost of a “real” roll/attribute. Just do it. Let me use move speed on Guardian helm and Compass rose and Boots and whatever else, and actually get benefit from it.

It’s time

Well, Fun Police even nerfed the Altar move speed from 25 to 10.

All classes have a build speed, is it really useful to uncap the movement speed?

For me it comes down to DELAY of enjoyment.

If you cap my movement speed then I am limited on how much time I can spend/how much I can accomplish given any given timeframe because there is a hard limit to being able to move across a map.

Now I understand “but the potato crowd…” arguments, how some systems cannot keep up/draw the map fast enough if you’re moving too fast, but I spend on computers what some people spend on cars.

Personally I think base movement speed (talking vanilla level 1 character from the get go) should be at +100% movement speed. Why? Then things like +10% on boots actually feels like it’s helping you, a lot, versus meh… you took 11 steps instead of 12 to get the same distance covered.

I don’t do it in online games, but any offline games like this, it’s the one cheat I’ll almost always find is how to TAKE LESS TIME to get from point a to point b. For some of us, it really is that big a deal. I’m glad you don’t care.

As for a developer perspective it’s a tough balancing act to try and manage the best possible experience across all capabilities (both player and hardware) within what the servers can handle too.

I don’t know what the best solution is, I just know it better come with more inherent movement speed in order to be meaningful to me.

Case in point, trying to do PTR, intentionally not doing char copy because I wanted to see what it’s going to be like starting fresh level 1, and I just… can’t.

I’m stuck in molasses, chained at the ankles, dragging 3 boat anchors AND THE BOATS.

I just can’t do it anymore.

I agree, and I also think Movement Speed should be able to roll on Pants.

However, I can see that the MS Cap might not be removed completely, but noticeably increased.

That’s a great idea, idk why movement speed isn’t on pants, a lot of athletes use compression shorts and stuff, they definitely help with speed

if for farming gear at t16 is fine.

well, Movement Speed is a Magical Affix, so the Pants are magically enhanced

It is based on principle.

Pants have a strong (intuitive) correlation to Movement Speed, b/c of legs.

Would also make gearing / the choice of affixes a bit more interesting, especially if Sockets were a separate thing to the ordinary affixes.

Gems are quite boring at the start of D4 and non existant mid game. I hope they are better at end game.

Still boring at end game, but with DLC you can use less boring Runes (max 2x2) in armor/2H-weapons now.

Sounds good to me i just hope to find some soon as i haven’t come across a single gem since around level 20 and i’m over level 40 now. I HAVE completed act 2 now so that’s some damn good progression. I should complete act 3 before next expansion, can’t wait as the story, graphics and game flow is awesome.

I don’t mind power creep in general, but an overall flat buff to move-speed for everyone would reduce build diversity. All build would be zooming, it’d remove the distinction between things like a GoD and tal rasha.

I like build diversity, so I don’t like giving uncapped move speed to everyone.

The reason for why builds are zooming is not because of Movement Speed as a Magic Affix on Pants, but b/c of overblown amounts of RCR and CDR in general - which makes it so that Mobility Skills can be spammed) and some Sets/Legendaries giving large bonuses to MS under specific conditions.

All forms of RCR and CDR are things that you have to be very careful with when implementing them, b/c they can make so many things redundant (and also ridiculously op).

Some of the things that could be done are:

  • reduce RCR and CDR and Resource Ce-Coup in general
  • replace Special Affixes like the one from ORotZ
  • make it so that RCR and CDR are ~30%x less effective on many skills, including Mobility Skills.

Movement Speed on Pants and a higher MS Cap would not be an issue then but add more build, item and affix diversity.

Keep it capped, just raise the cap.
