It’s like this, I only ever played Diablo 3 on console and recently I’ve been getting E-mails from Blizzard about someone trying to sign-in using my account and IT ISN’T ME!! I haven’t played the game in over a year! Whoever this little toad is has been going at it for over 2 months and I want it to stop! Is anyone with a pulse working over at Blizzard? If so, then please help me.
If you are getting emails from Blizzard about your account, it has nothing to do with your console account (unless you made the mistake of using the same email for both your console account and Battle.net account).
In either case, you need to do the following ASAP:
- Change the password for your Battle.net account. Make sure it is not a password you use elsewhere. If you have a password manager like 1Password or LastPass, you can use it to create a unique password that isn’t used on other sites. Don’t reuse passwords. Ever.
- Change the password for your console account. The same rules for passwords apply here as well.
- If you have a smartphone or tablet available to you, it is strongly recommended that you enable two factor authentication on your Battle.net account by adding a Blizzard Authenticator to your account. This adds an extra layer of security that prevents typical “man in the middle” attacks. Make sure to write down both the serial number and restore code provided by the Blizzard authenticator before you proceed further.
- Once you have set up the Blizzard Authenticator and saved the serial number and restore codes, you should add a mobile phone number and SMS Protect to your account.
This combination of steps will protect your account from intrusion so long as you keep your email account secure. It may be a wise idea to also change your email account’s password as well as a backstop against those aforementioned man in the middle attacks. If you believe your current email account may not be secure, you should change your Battle.net account’s email as soon as you can, and preferrably prior to following the steps above so you don’t leave a way for an intruder to gain access while you’re setting up your security.
Blizzard can’t do anything about the person(s) attempting to log into your account. Only you can set up the necessary security backstops to protect your account.
