And yes, ive tried swapping regions, changing passwords, changing region AND swapping passwords, logging out of bnet client, sacrifising a chicken and spreading the blood on a floor in the form of a pentagram. nothing is working 
Try changing character, or selecting/de-selecting a pet.
This is definitely a bug, but I have seen a couple of people report these workarounds with success.

nope, got silenced in world of warcraft, and i was restricted from playing diablo II during that time.
