Too many flashing lights!

I really wish they would remove/lower or give the option to remove/lower the amount of flashing on the screen. I was excited to come back for the new season and can barely play now :frowning: I have extreme photo sensitivity when it comes to the flashing lights, while most effects are somewhat annoying, the constant lightening effect brightening the whole screen every few seconds renders me nearly blind for a moment.

Please please please remove this effect it makes it unplayable for anyone sensitive to streaking lights.

I happen to agree with you. I get headaches from the constant changes. It needs to be toned down by a bunch.

People say the same thing for years and no action have been heard as far as I know. I always criticised the art direction to be too gaudy for its own sake and lacking contrast.

Silence only tells me that art department is not happy about what they heard so far towards their work. I’m aware this art style has been chosen for ā€œclarity of the combat fieldā€ or for players to ā€œread informationā€ but too much blur for the ā€œclarityā€ cause such issues. It should’ve been obvious after all these years.

Well I happen to know for a fact I will not let my daughter play this season at all. The constant light changes would send her into a seizure. She’s epileptic. They need a longer PTR than they give. Then maybe they would get the feedback they say they seek.

There are small modifications to make D3 more contrast friendly but as far as I know that also can be a bannable offense if Warden picks this up. Also I don’t think Blizz’s classic games team would make a huge difference on the lighting and art direction after 8 years to the same old assets. Unless there are more people like you making their voice heard, my best solution is not allowing anyone photo-sensitive to not play the game.

Normally she wouldn’t have an issue but the rapid changes in the season this time she would.

I actually quite enjoy the art style of D3, the color pallet is fairly bland and it can be hard to tell what’s what sometimes, barring the occasional splash of red or green.

My post isn’t as much of a critique on the art style as it is a warning/plea on behalf of the visually impaired/ epileptic community. I don’t suffer from seizures thankfully, but bright and flashing lights like these do momentarily stun me. It’s never been an issue in D3 for me until now.

Changing your settings on your graphics card or monitor will NOT get you banned. You are totally allowed to adjust your hardware. That is outside the game. There are some programs that come with graphics cards that let you save a profile for each game. Nothing wrong with that.

This is a very real concern. I am not sure they will change the season theme or settings at this time, I would still put in an email to the Accessibility Team about it. Be specific with your concerns. Even if it does not get this game fixed, or this season fixed, it helps with accessibility options and settings for games under development.

Short term, a warning would be helpful so those who have light sensitivity issues are aware this season theme is more intense than normal Diablo 3 game play.

Also, you are not the only one to complain!

There are also complaints about the noise, although that is easier to turn off.

Oh… Seasonal changes for elemental tempest then. This is nothing they can do anything about either. I think you people bound to skip one season or try to adapt your monitor settings like @MissCheetah suggested above.

I’m in the same boat as your daughter, I’ve been playing D3 for a long time and I have never had an issue up until now. The normal flashy things aren’t bothering me as much as the one new storm seasonal effect. I dont know the name, but its the one that has a giant lightening streak every 3-5 seconds for about 20 seconds.

By the time I’ve recovered from the first light streak another one flashes across the screen. I can only hope to get my character to a safe place and turn away until it’s over.

I have to admit, I am not happy with the effects either. I find them very disorienting, and in some instances, almost blinded to what is happening with my character on the screen. I did test some of the effects on the PTR, but didn’t find a way to adjust my graphics to lessen it. I had hoped that some of the PTR reports would make a difference, and I’m disappointed.

You can only really turn off master sound, not just the season theme. That’s what players are upset about. I play with sound off because Blizzard hasn’t had good sound effects for a loooooooooong time (about two decades at this point). Not sure why, but there ya go. It’s why I played WoW w/o sound for so long too until I got a spiffy home theater setup so I could hear DBM nicely.

Wow how many of these posts are there lol… People are not liking the additional effects that comes with S21. I wonder if blizzard would actually do something about it. Very curious.

It has been raised internally but I don’t know the status or what they might do. I made sure this morning to round up data and forward it. They were already on it (awareness wise anyway).

This is a Holiday weekend so I am not sure what we might get for feedback/changes.

At least for me, it’s not so much a matter of not liking as it is the fact that severe flashing lights like this can have physical consequences. I played for about 20 minutes earlier today and had to turn it off because I almost had a seizure. Not joking or exaggerating here. I almost fell out of my chair and had to turn off my lights and sit in a darkened room for a while until I felt almost normal. Still had a headache for most of the day. I am most definitely sitting this season out unless something changes.

The visuals and the sound both need to be toned down by ~2/3 (my opinion) - even better would be that AND a way to toggle on/off the season theme. Went through acts 1-3 last night and finished up the rest this a.m. , there were times I couldn’t see anything, not even the mini-map because I was blinded. I also have zero interest in hearing those horns for the next 12 weeks. This is not engaging gameplay, it’s obnoxious.

Now that I’ve (finally) finished the S21/20th Anniversary update for the cosmetics guide, I can finally look into actually playing D3 w/o feeling like I’m not doing the things I’m supposed to do.

I suspect I’m going to be royally bombarded though, as my display is a 46" TV up close (I really want that sweet, sweet LG 43" 4k Rev B display in my Amazon list).

While I agree that the season mechanic is a bit over the top, I think I can live with it…but, what I want to know is if the glittery weird asset effect i am seeing in some places is part of the season or if it’s my graphic card taking a dump?

We’d need to see a screenshot of the issue to make any preliminary diagnosis.

Yes, too much flashy… I am now experiencing eye strain. I may just do the season journey, then offline season remaining. Wait and see.

All some of us are asking for is the ability in-game (options/video) to tone down the visual effects. Could be slider bar, checkbox, or whatever. Add ā€œdarkenā€ filter checkbox. Add more mouse options. Players shouldn’t have to feel the need to use third party software. I have unchecked ā€œenable sound.ā€
