So, I’ve offered to help a friend power level their first character, and help them through the game until they’ve unlocked Adventure zone. I was wondering if anyone had any tips for that? Like is it better for them to invite me to the game, or me to invite them to the game. And I can never remember what the highest difficulty a brand new player can access.
I may be in the minority, but I think it’s a mistake to powerlevel someone’s first character.
I would create my own level 1 hero and accompany my friend through the Campaign and through the first 4 chapters of Season.
After that, anything goes.
Excellent advice. The first playthrough should always be done the real way. It allows someone to get used to the game mechanics and other aspects of the game. A good analogy would be, do you enter a swimming competition to learn how to swim?
Highest T level a new character can go to is T6, so you would powerlevel someone at T6 (if you can kill things easily at T6). It doesnt matter if he creates or you create the game.
Pretty sure the game level is dependent on who creates the game. So the level 70 player needs to create the game and then invite the new player.
I agree that going though the campaign mode on your own initially is a valuable part of learning the game. That said, here’s the answer to your question.
Are you planning on doing this on season or non-season?
If seasonal, adventure mode is unlocked right away, so just make a T6 game with them in the party on adventure mode and run them though a few Nephelem Rifts. Note that you should create the game so the monsters/game is level 70 and you still get level 70 drops (they will get drops at their level still regardless, but if you make them you can get lvl 70 items, DBs, etc that wouldn’t work if they make and the game is their level) . You can also take some bonus xp items like gem of ease instead of emerald in weapon, and ruby in helm (unless losing cdr breaks your build) since T6 is so easy you won’t need the full damage, assuming your character that you use to PL does high torments easily.
If you are doing this in non-season, you should still create the game, but adventure mode will not be unlocked for them. If you use a character that has beaten campaign mode you can go to game settings and select the quest you’re on to be beating Maltheal. Killing Maltheal is all that’s required to unlock adventure mode for your friend. Then you can use the same process as I described for the seasonal pl.
Considering going seasonal gets them the free class set for the season journey and the option to start winning stash tabs, there doesn’t seem to be any reason to me to not have them make a seasonal character, unless your seasonal character can’t pull off a T6 carry.
Create T6 game adventure mode, invite your friend, open a rift, he will be 70 in like 10 to 15 minutes
if he havenyt beaten the campaing yet, open create a game at malthael quest and invite him kill the boss and he will have adventure mode unlocked
I want to help my friend unlock Adventure mode. And, no I don’t feel comfortable carrying them with my seasonal character (not my usual class, plus low paragon level)
I do know they tried the expansion already, so they have at least some experience. And I’ve also told them I can’t advise them on the class they chose.(I honestly play the game for fun not for strategy. So I don’t have any good strategies, except “go to icy-viens”. and facts about the game. Like what basic gems to use)
Makes sense. Using the steps I described for the NS situation should work out for you then, it’s what I did when I got my friend into D3 a few years ago.
GAME DIFFICULTY
When you start up a game of Diablo III, you’ll be able to select the difficulty level you’d like to play on. By default, Normal, Hard, and Expert are available. You’ll unlock Master difficulty when any of your characters completes the game, and Torment difficulty when any of your characters reaches level 60. Once you’re playing, you can adjust Diablo III’s difficulty on the fly with the START button (consoles) or by opening the Game Menu (PC, default key “ESCAPE”) and selecting “LOWER DIFFICULTY” or “RAISE DIFFICULTY.” There are some limits on how far you can raise or lower Diablo III’s difficulty while playing without recreating your game.
From the Blizzard guide (note- you can’t raise the level). To get to Adventure finish the campaign. Simple as that, set game to highest your friend can enter and carry on. Or play seasonal.
A fresh level 1 can create a game up to T6. I had players who are level 1 that invtied me to their T6 games to powerlevel them. There’s no difference in my expereience, no idea how you got your info. I create and invite or they create and invite, its the same. I powerlevel a few players every week, did both ways and saw no difference.
The monster level depends on who creates the game. If a level 1 player creates the game, even at T6, and invites you, the monsters will still be at level 1. If you create the game and invite the new player, the monsters will be at level 70.
There are 2 options you can level a new player to the game…
“Custom” and " Express"
Custom
You create a new character along with the new player and go through story mode and complete the game. I would suggest that you only be a support to the new player so that he/she can get the feel of the game. Once you’re done with the story mode, you go to adventure for other stuff (Kanai’s Cube, bounty mats, etc.) and getting the gears faster. I recommend to do this for first timers rather than express. It takes a while, but worth it especially if the player is new to the genre of the game.
Express
Let the new player create a new character, invite him/her to your game (assuming you’re level 70 and doing adventure mode) then power level him/her through rifts in T6. This will take you approx 10 minutes (it will be even faster if you have Gem of Ease. Once it is done, invite the new player again in the story mode and kill Malthiel (so he can go solo in adventure mode). If you don’t do this, he cannot play adventure mode once he goes solo/public.
It’s up to you to decide which would suit your or your friend’s preference.
Enjoying the game is what matters most… avoid the toxicity and negative stuff.
Cheers!
I believe the friend is so new they don’t have adventure mode unlocked.
https://diablo.fandom.com/wiki/Adventure_Mode
- Adventure Mode is unlocked for all characters by completing Act V with any character, regardless of the character level, and once unlocked, can be used by any character of any level of the same type Hardcore/Softcore and Seasonal/Normal on account.
Which means, if you have a toon that currently has access to Malthael story in Act V. You can start the game on Torment 6 or less, invite friend, kill Malthael. And your friend will have adventure mode unlocked. If you put all your toons to seasonal at one point or another, you might find yourself with zero toons with story mode completed.
In order to enter greater rift, your friend needs to be lvl 70 and have completed at least one regular rift in order to get keystone.
I’ve completed the game act 1-5 at least once per class. Except maybe the necro. I think I got him PL. (I started playing day one. two characters per class. iirc I had beat acts 1-4 at least 23 times.)
I honestly havent saw or felt any difference in the past in my expereience. If there were it probably wasnt big enough for me to notice.
That is incorrect. A T6(70) game gives far more experience than a T6(1) game.
The game matches monster level to the creator’s level. As a level 1 creator levels up the monster level increases to match them T6(2)-T6(3)-T6(4) etc. Where the number in parentheses indicates the Plvl and Mlvl.
in seasonal adventure mode.
In non season you are stuck with Expert campaign mode.
There is a difference and i have noticed it when plvling, normally it would take 2-3 t6 rift to plvl someone, when they make the game it usually takes an extra rift but 1 more rift isnt that much so it isnt that big of a deal. what is though is item drops when the lvl 1 character starts a game the items that drop will be around monster lvl so you could end up with some lv 1-70 legendaries again not very important if your not picking up anything anyway
not 100% sure but if you kill malthael in adventure mode it should also count for completing act5 and therefore opening up adv mode on non season
