Thorns Summon Necro?

I made the LoD (or maybe LoN) Thorns Summon necro build many years ago when it was one of the top tier builds in the game, but haven’t played it in a long time. Has someone tried it lately and can tell me how it is now?

I don’t think its a thing.

Necro used to be so fun man! I didn’t buy the dlc until years after it came out so I missed out on so many good builds!

Dang…alright maybe I’ll see what I can put together again then and try it out.

I found the one I used to use I guess it was LoN build

2018 lol

yeah i had second place on that thorns build, it got hard nerfed because of the Bone Ringer is capped at 60 seconds now.
plus so many other necro builds got like 10x buffs

I don’t think they use bone ringer

Definitely a remnant of the past. It used to be the best rift guardian killer at one point. Nowdays the best RGk is still necro but with rathma and the best thorns build is crusader with invoker. Bone ringer used to stack indefinitely but they nerfed it many many seasons ago (around S18 or S19). Taking into account the fact that it was one of the hardest and weirdest builds in the game, and also, the fact that new and stronger builds arose, Necro thorns quickly fell from grace. Literally, every set and build of maxroll is better at this point.

It was widely powerful but now they got replaced by other builds due efficiency and power of it. As LoN or LoD can’t wear secondary Sets, I think staple items for this build would be Bone Ringer and Jesseth’s Arms Set, thus only Inarius Set can have full benefit of that combination. Only a theory of mine but I guess you can include Demon’s Hide bracer and belt to have extra thorns as well.

Okay thanks, though idk why me being here for however long is the determining factor. I have learning disability I don’t know these things and I don’t have the capability to understand

Also idk why everyone is talking about this build with Bone Ringer. The build in question never used Bone Ringer, it doesn’t use Essence at all, and the RG is the hardest part, not the easiest.

Because this build was favored for its ability to kill boses back then when rift guardians in GR150 seemed impossible for most of the other builds to kill. Bone ringer had nothing to do with essence, it was the core item because skeletons stacked damage forever as long as you could drag one elite and keep hitting it and thorns applied this damage. One very important disadvantage of this build was that some RG were also impossible to be killed by thorns, while others like Blighter went down pretty fast. If you are determined to play it, search for thorns necro before S18 to learn the mechanics.

But why would Bone Ringer matter when the build has base crit/crit? Did the damage bonus of the bone ringer command skeletons also affect the returned thorns damage, is that what you’re saying?

I’m determined to play it but the one I played never used bone ringer. I already know a lot about it since I was one of the original creators of the build I guess other people used a different one though or had different idea for it.

long story short yes. By the way, Thorns doesn’t crit in D3, appart from a very specific season where a soul shard allows thorns to crit.

I know that thorns doesn’t crit, that’s why I say base crit/crit so I didn’t know why someone would use bone ringer because even at max stacks with base crit/crit it still does nothing. But if the damage bonus of the skeletons also transfers to the thorns damage of the skeletons then yeah I can see why bone ringer may have been used.

What offhand do you use? The build in discussion here has a very specific playstyle, you need to pay attention to many things.

As of 2018 I was using Lidless Wall. The playstyle I remember was tagging and grouping as many enemies as possible with Eternal Torment Aura of Frailty to massively boost thorns damage and then just standing in the middle using Siphon Blood Drain Life, as well as casting Flesh Golem on cooldown to raise super powered Revives with the Scarlet Crown that was basically it I think.
