This is why they stop making D3 2nd expansion

The idea is to entice people who would normally not consider buying platinum, by tying a “practically free” bonus to it. Similar to how people might not “normally” agree to bundle their home + auto insurance together, but if they’re already paying $600 for auto and home usually costs $500, they feel like they’re “saving” $100.

But, the reality is if they never paid for what they didn’t want, they’d be saving $400. Because all they really “want” is auto.

It’s a manipulation of perception by leveraging opportunity cost that entices an upsell. Is there anything else I can get for you today? Perhaps some fries to go with the burger? Or mayhap a drink? Our food is awfully salty, after all…

At the end of the day, if you were planning on buying plat anyway, this is a great deal. Or, if you were “on the fence” perhaps this might convince you to take the plunge. But it’s still a value judgment no matter how it’s framed or packaged. If I choose to spend 70 bucks on this horse, or on a scratch ticket, the result is I spent my money.
