The Real Problems

This is all in my opinion and I’m not going to dispute and argue with people on any of these topics. I’d just like for these to be heard by blizzard since they aren’t game breaking changes, nor do they change the mechanics of the game.

First I’d like to address the Paladin auras. They look like they were pulled right out of WoW. The graphics on them were not enhanced, they look like a dumbed down cartoon version of the original. Just bad all around, cmon blizzard you can do better. Just keep the original if it comes down to it.

Second is the fonts. Over time you get used to it and it’s not as cringe, but I really like the traditional rustic old school fonts, the blotchy thick fonts. These look like they were just thrown together without any concern to keeping that look at all. I enjoy telling my kids “that’s a 5, not a 6.” I’m sure all of the vets can understand that. Please keep the old rustic, awesome fonts.

Third is the multiplayer chat system. The only thing that worked in this beta was the fact that you could see and interact with other players. The chat system is crap, half the time doesn’t even work. Also, what’s with all the prompts about joining and leaving the trade or main lobby? So annoying and it seems to be there only as a hinderance.

Fourth, the online lobby. Unfinished, unpolished and thrown together. Seriously guys, you say you care about the remaster of this game but this lobby definitely doesn’t look it. Did you guys just copy some stuff and paste it over? Like, it looks like you spent an altogether 10 minutes to build the user interface here. Just absolute crap, it would be so much better if you actually tried.

Fifth, some of the audio is amiss. I’m not a big fan of the gold pickup sounds. It’s very soft and smooth. Maybe it’s just me but I was expecting a more solid tone like when you drop loose change in a change bag. I do like most of the other sounds, but I feel there needs to be more bass in the footfalls and when you hit mobs.

Last of all is more of a bug than an issue I have. When you toggle pvp with auto party enabled. Someone could invite you to the party you toggled and the game will make you join their party regardless of toggle. I don’t particularly like the auto party function but it’s not a huge hinderance until you wanna pvp someone for smack talking.

Ultimately, I do appreciate a lot of things in the remaster and how blizzard is listening to the greater majority of complaints about specific items. There is a lot of really good new features like the advanced menu and shared stash. Now I don’t have to dual client a private game to transfer items. I appreciate how the assassin and zon are being modified to look more like the classic models.

As for hopes for the future, I hope this topic is heard and changed. I’d really like to not see botting or duping going on but I’m sure it’s inevitable. I hope these whiny kids will get over the fact that loot sharing is part of the game or not play.

I wouldn’t call any of these “real problems”, aside from chat problems - there are certainly more important things that have to be done for the release.

Of course I don’t negate that the things you’ve typed might use some improvements. I personally also do think that auras’ look is a bit off point, tho It’s not something gamebreaking, they still can patch it while the game is already realased.

They could patch these issues however, how often do they patch graphics or sound effects that don’t effect the game directly? Also, as mentioned at the beginning, these fixes wouldn’t be game breaking and aren’t currently. It would be nice to see these improvements implemented before release as the mechanics were already set in stone 20 years ago. What changes would you like to see before release? Are there any that are currently game breaking?

I particularly agree with you with fonts (edit : apart of the 5 and 6 digits). It’s also nice that you mention sound effects because I also find some sound lacks sub bass impact or simply contrast since d3.

These are other points that need attention too imo :

  • This issue is covered but people don’t mention that it’s a constant delay of 100ms (or so), which makes using the interface, inventory, as well as any NPC text options, slow and simply not enjoyable. When running towards any NPC, it makes the npc window not reliably available on mouse-over. I think it explains the click problems and things not being snappy.

  • Mouse-over NPC/Monster/interaction objects does not brightens enough. Making playthrough less readable — and again harms the enjoyment. This lack of contrast is perhaps a broader topic.

  • The sound when character Levels-up sounds like diablo3. What do you think of it? I personally really don’t like this soft sound. It sounds like a triangle, or thin metal/glass touching cheers to call a toast. It is too airy and “ballad-journey” like. Original lvl-up is a dry sound of an anvil impact with more body and warmth. It’s more visceral.

  • Frozen Orb still looking spiky and lacks its visible transparent inner structure

  • Frozen ennemies still explode in a teal color

Btw eXeNexus; I covered a list of feedback too (I am genuinely curious to know what you think of it if you have time https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/d3/t/feedback-technical-art-and-legacy-toggle/39594

I don’t think it’s just about “major problems”. The entire game is a list of attention to details. 5 details matter as much as a major problem. Everything matters and adds up to have a complete product imo.

First off I’d like to say your thread is very well formatted and I’m starting to think I may start doing the same.

  • The latency issues I have also noticed but I wasn’t sure if it was just me or that the remaster is just very clunky. I agree, it is definitely something that absolutely needs to change. The classic is so crisp and instant on reaction to the player and this remaster is not doing it justice.

  • I also noticed the mouse-over mob brightness and I agree about readability. I cannot tell which monster I have selected aside from the nameplate at the top which doesn’t help much when you have a group of the same monster.

  • To be honest, I thought the level up sound didn’t imitate D3 on point but did have some similarities. It isn’t the traditional D2 sound either. It’s almost like they scrambled the sounds from D2 and D3 and removed the solid sounds afterwards. Maybe removing the D3-esk similarities and adding in some solid bass with the anvil like you suggested would make for an improvement. I didn’t personally have issues with it to begin with, but I’m glad you pointed it out.

  • As for the frozen orb, I’ll have to review over some YouTube videos as I didn’t play as the sorceress nor had anyone around using frozen orb. I will modify this post later today after I have the chance to check out some videos.

  • I assume you are speaking of the “ice cubes” that monsters turn into when frozen and defeated. I didn’t notice the teal color you spoke of while I was playing. After review on the video you have embedded, I see the mist that envelopes the monster before cubes is in fact a very light teal color. This doesn’t bother me so much but I agree it needs to be a very light blue instead of teal.

I will check out your feedback link later today and let you know what I think.

Also, you are correct when you say no matter how small the problem, it needs to be fixed as if it were a major problem. In vehicle sales, would you buy a brand new car if there’s a scratch on it? Same concept in my opinion.

Both my brother and I noticed the lack of bass in hitting things. One of the most satisfying things in my gaming history is taking a mace-class weapon to a zombie in Blood Moor and feeling that “THUNK” on contact.

It took me a while to understand what was wrong with gear dropping : items float too long in the air compared to OG :
What happens is that the sound of items being dropped plays when items are in the air. It is not synchronised. Listen and compare.
Not sure if sound are properly synch in YT videos but sound always starts in beta when gear is starting its free fall. Not satisfying and sounds weird.

Do you people relate ? I can’t check again since beta is over.

Yes I agree with all of the above. Open Beta was great, but it had alot of smaller but annoying issues, which are nicely captured in this thread. Hopefully everything gets fixed prior to launch. I have not preordered yet, still waiting to see the finished product before I buy. D3 preorder taught me that lesson.

I could deal with some minor issues BUT that no lobby / no chat = no thanks surprised there has been no word from the devs sense the beta

The ‘real problem’ for console players is a lack of lobby to coordinate multiplayer games.

That is a real problem that kills the multiplayer experience.

I should have specified PC. However, console players are definitely missing out. Why would they do that to the fans? All they had to do was add kb&m support and keep the same game. I just don’t understand…

I think this is having to do with the fact that the overlay engine is running slightly behind the underlying game . That would explain a lot of the rubberbanding and slight lag when doing simple things.

Except is was seamless in single player. D2 has always had rubber banding so I expect that online but never had lag just transferring items from stash to inventory and reverse.

Agree with all the points. Not all deal breakers, but it would be nice if they were all fixed. Fingers crossed, only a couple more weeks and we will know D2R’s launch state and features.

When it comes to fonts, all I want is something readable and large

I gotta be honest, while I know people want the multiplayer stuff to be better, I play solo and I can’t say there’s anything on this list that really grinds my gears - some of it is pretty nick-picky and just meh to me. I’d rather they fix potion management on console because it’s actually bad. That actually does grind my gears to no end because it’s such a horrible implementation for something you do thousands of times and affects someone minute-to-minute game experience a lot more than some of the things you listed.

This makes sense. I’m not personally a console player but I can definitely see how this would get frustrating and time consuming.
