You can try out some of the items, check some of the in game events and clear your stash etc.
This gives them a week to test it live, for real and not in PTR, in case any other issues come up that weren’t discovered previously. There was a blue post about this not too long ago.

What you don’t like to test their live extended NS PTR session? Well aren’t you just a party pooper! 
Waiting a little over a week gives the devs some time in case there are some bugs to iron out still that weren’t found in the ptr.
They also want to ensure server stability, research time, deployment time, and testing

I’m disappointed the season isn’t starting for another week. It starts right at the end of spring break for me 
Better safe than sorry. One week full live test could help detect a previously unreported exploit or some other issue.

The fact that the leaderboards are broken is a good reason. Would you be happy if the same issues were apparent in the seasonal leaderboards as we currently have in the new non-seasonal era?
