The Impact of Shield of Fury Nerf

Shield of Fury

  • The benefit of this item now stacks up to a cap of 20
  • Developer’s Note: As many of you noted coming out of our 2.6.7 update, we also overshot on Crusader with the live patch. We love to see Crusader performing much better with it’s new set, and this cap should reign in damage to a more reasonable level

Here are some numbers for RG Kills.

On a 1 minute fight @ 2.8APS (Pig Sticker), it’s about an 4.6x nerf (
On a 1 minute fight @ 2.0APS (Fate of the Fell), it’s about a 3.3x nerf.

On a 2 minute fight @ 2.8APS (Pig Sticker), it’s about an 9.3x nerf
On a 2 minute fight @ 2.0APS (Fate of the Fell), it’s about a 6.6x nerf.

On a 3 minute fight @ 2.8APS (Pig Sticker), it’s about an 16x nerf
On a 3 minute fight @ 2.0APS (Fate of the Fell), it’s about a 10x nerf.

The multiplier means that’s how much less damage is cumulatively dealt within the time window.

For example, if you’ve dealt 1000 damage with Pig Sticker after 1 minute, post nerf you’d deal 217 damage.

I’ve calculated Fate of the Fell to be more effective than Pig Sticker in main hand – despite stricken stacking.

For regular soloing, we’re still going to post big hits, for me about 3Q max stacks when conditions are right (holy and immobilized).

Maybe you’ve touched this in another thread. We lose a passive with Fate of the Fell (Holy Cause?). And what’s best options in the cube instead of the Fell?

What is the expected kill time on 150 RG?

For solo clears the nerf is really big, because you need to equip stricken now.

Yes, that is true, i was using BotT, Gogok and PE, now i will have to drop PE for Stricken.

But you did wear pe only for stacking shield of fury faster now it is irrelevant so you can swap it for stricken

I think this will make the build using Ivory Tower be the META

Would RGK still be viable? Guessing we would just not use Pig Sticker anymore and just throw on stricken and be good to go.

With FotF in hand, you hit harder, but lose Fervor for Heavenly Strength.

Keep in mind AoV + Captain Crimson + EW is 44.5x stronger than LoD ever was.

If you divide 44.5x by the nerf multipliers i mentioned above, you’ll see AoV HF is still many times stronger than LoD for RGK and solo. It’s still going to crush the grift in solo play and the RG will go down many times faster than LoD, because the base hits from AoV are so strong.

At first, i was worried about this nerf, but the set’s overtuning makes up for it. You can test this yourself, right now by unequipping Shield of Fury from your cube or offhand. Go out and play – measure the peak numbers Now imagine them 7x stronger. I was seeing 430T on an oculus ring, that’s going to be a 3Q hit on non guardian mobs with all the right conditions. FYI, I am still able to very easily solo GR130 without this item, which makes this build stronger than Blessed Shield.

Talk about a neutering :stuck_out_tongue:

Having less than one third of the previous damage buff, even with the slower 2 aps weapon over the course of a short 1 minute fight…looks like a massive nerf indeed.

Sorry, is there a new patch note? I can’t find it at the main page.

Edit: Okay, saw the sticky in general discussion.

Oh well, gonna see how it performs. Will roll a barb & Cruz next season. Still divided which to start first.

If you are going to do both Barb and Cruz I’d recommend starting as Barb since waste is the gift set this coming season. Easier to get it up and running then farm for mats / shards to build your sader

For Shotgun RGK it looks like a 1 hand setup wearing Akanesh or Sunkeeper + Fervor passive + Bane of Powerful is at least 10% stronger than if using Gogok & wearing Furnace (as long as powerful is active).

That being said, I heard Ivory Tower procs like crazy on Orlash, so I suppose Fate of the Fell equipped + Ivory Tower cubed and fishing for Orlash would be the top Sader RGK push setup if the damage ramp hadn’t been destroyed by the shield nerf.

-calculated at 1 min and 2 mins into fight to adjust for faster stricken stacking of 2 aps 1h setup vs 1.5 aps 2h setup (faster SoF stack not accounted for in total damage)

Build is still stronger than Condemn I’d say, so while this does hurt RGK viability for the build - it should still be a pretty strong build.

I think I would have liked to see SoF capped at maybe 30 though for safe measure.

FotH needs some love still.

Khasett’s Cord needs a buff. Or we need some Fist specific Shields/Bracers.

I would like to see Eberli Charo changed into:

  • Reduces the cooldown of Heaven’s Fury by 50% and the damage of Fist of the Heavens is increased by XXX% as long as Heaven’s Fury is active. (Crusader Only)
(Yes it excludes Fires of Heaven rune)

Or any other tweaks to existing items that are not being used.

Eberli Charo and Ivory Tower make the most sense for Fist of the Heavens Shields.

Your idea for EC could work really well.

A possible idea for IT could be "enemies hit by Heaven’s Fury take XXX% increased damage from Fist of the Heavens for X seconds"

Edit: RIP Crusader RGK; Necro RGK reigns supreme.

In general, Heaven’s Fury/AoV will be most effective for group xp farm setup along with Rend barb using the standard AoV Shotgun setup.

Solo is still looking competitive with everything but Bazooka, but the Shotgun + Pigsticker setup got hit really hard by this nerf, so I’m thinking Blessed Ground with full area damage might be our strongest push setup at this point, unless the lag is too much.

When is this nerf coming?

All we know is “before S19”
