The Festering Pit

The Festering Pit is one of the Enmity Vision areas, and it’s based on the Burning Man event in the Paths of the Drowned in Act V.

This area is particularly troublesome because of the torch stakes in the ground, which seriously hinder movement, especially if you can’t see them because they are obscured by a dozen or so enemies jammed into the Pit.

But there is a clear path.

If you get to the bottom of the stairway as quickly as possible, you can travel pretty much horizontally left across the Pit to the root of the tree in the opposite corner. From there, you have a wall at your back and you can wipe everything out without having to move again, and if you do, you can go directly to your character’s left along the wall to the other tree, or directly to your character’s right to the pile of bones, but be careful there, because there is a torch that will block your further counterclockwise movement.

Playing a SSF hard-core Demon Hunter, this area has given me palpitations a couple of times as I needed to get away from an enemy, Vault was blocked by the stake, and I was running out of Discipline, while losing health to the enemies and being Necrotified…lol.

Good Hunting!

Yeah, this map is a problematic one due to the torches.

I’ve been running strictly Sader since speccing one up and all I do is stand up at the portal to activate horsey and let the FotH rain down before I proceed down the stairs to collect everything.

Heading down there and trying to move around with horsey is painful at best.

Thankfully it’s a small area.

I always get stuck on the stakes when picking up the legendaries.

I still play my favorite Unhallowed build. (At least, as my main build). Even on T16, I blast the entire map from my point of entry. By the time I descend the steps there’s only a couple of monsters left.

Same here.

I’m a little slow. But, after completing Season 29 four times now, currently working on five, I’ve memorized the pattern of the torches. So, they’re not so bad, but can still be a bit of a PITA.

Really annoying room. Always skip it ASAP even with many legs on it.

I stutter step all over the place so it is not a big deal for me. Torches have circular pattern so if you were to lost them inbetween monsters just jitter around. As long as you can kill stuff fast you won’t have to worry about navigation.

I run a GoD DH and while the torches are annoying, nothing lives long enough to even think about scuffing me.

Pro Gamer Tip: when playing DH, just melt stuff from the top step, then loot. If you are getting overwhelmed, you are either playing above your level or playing wrong.

When I’m doing Bounties, I have a very fast GoD build that uses Boon of the Hoarder, Avarice Band and Goldwrap. So I have to get close enough to pick up the first couple piles of gold in order to have any Toughness at all. Thus, I have to go down the steps. Otherwise, at T16 the first Thunderstorm will pop my lifesaver.

I can muster up about 150 million Toughness with no gold, just to get in the door, and it’s never a problem except in these Visions.

Of course I have another GoD build for Echoing Nightmares where I get to 3 billion Toughness just using Gloom. And then a balanced GR build.

So please, don’t start ranting that if I have to use Boon of the Hoarder, Avarice Band and Goldwrap to survive, I’m playing wrong. I build for area and purpose.

Goldwrap can be tricky even in softcore. I guess you also have to be careful in the vision maps with three rift guardians. You walk in and there are no monsters in sight, and Booom suddenly Coldsnap is on top of you!

This one has given me a couple of starts. On one occasion I had 2 consecutive areas with the Guardians. Fortunately the 5 seconds of invulnerability granted by the Templar after saving my life is enough for me to kill the first one and pick up some gold. After that I’m… golden… as it were.

Dunno why you are using Goldwrap to survive, Wraps of Clarity should be enough. Plus trading off Hunter’s Wrath or Depth Diggers for Goldwrap is gonna hurt more than help. I am also hoping you have Avarice on your follower.

Just did a few portals on my HC DH with UE and GoD. My gear is complete and utter crap. P577. No socket on my Yang’s. Boon of the Hoarder level 50, Simplicity at 25, level 1 3rd gem. Didn’t have depth diggers, so wearing Hunter’s Wrath and also in the cube. No ancient weapon on either build.

Did T13 because of the incredibly poor quality of my gear and 200ms-800ms lag I was getting. Didn’t proc once on any of the portals. Found the “Burning Man” map with both builds. Both had blue elites. Stood at the top of the stairs, melted enemies as they went to the stairs.
