The ethereal achievement is very concerning

Some people see the opportunity in the eths to play the seson longer than a week. And some people are like: I don’t have time for this s***. They can’t win every body.

I personally won’t mind playing to farm out the Ethereals, it’s about the appearances for me. I haven’t bought Necromancer because I wasn’t interested in playing it; this makes the appearances issue most about money for me. Oh well.

If thats the video i think it is, you needed to do ancient vaults so collecting enough ancient puzzle rings isn’t THAT fast. But you can probably get a lot of ethereals for other classes just from the season journey and even more if you like hitting leaderboards.

I’ll probably get them all but only if I’m lucky enough to get the necro ones while playing other classes. I have no interest in buying the necro pack.

I’ve spent more time farming materials to craft a perfect Hellfire amulet and Flavor of Time than playing through the entirety of some AAA games, thank you very much.

Disclaimer: Everything I’m about to say assumes the drop rate is near the 1/100 rate experienced on the PTR.

The way ethereals work doesn’t satisfy the quoted condition. They’re not gatekeeping the power of the ethereals, they’re gatekeeping the convenience of ethereals. For most classes if you’re wiling to transition your entire build around the ethereal that drops you’ll have pretty close to its full power very early on because they’re so powerful you don’t need max ranges to see a huge jump in power.

Now, to do what you’re suggesting, let’s make it work like everything in the game does. The rest of the game makes it easy to get the item you want but difficult to get the rolls you want. The game outside of ethereals is convenient…it gives you many ways to get the items you need and then you slowly grind to make them the items you want.

Now, some would say that’s a feature of ethereals…you don’t play with pre-planned builds and instead have to build around what you get. That works great in lower torments, but because of the insane scaling over the years it works terrible in higher torments. And let’s not forget these things neither come with sockets nor can roll one, so Ramaladini drops come into play if you’re looking to switch weapons often. Yet another aspect of how D3 is not meant to let players easily pivot builds.

Right now, if the drop rate didnt change it wont please anyhow. The no-lifers will outpace the RNG to get the combination they want without a ton of regard to getting perfect rolls while the truly casual players will be frustrated in that the few ethereals they do get won’t match the rest of their gear.

We are talking about geting the achevement, not how difficult it will be to make a good build whit eths.

Also eths provide enough power to all builds to atleast farm T16 easily.

What will happen is if the drop rate doesn’t provide a quality gameplay loop like I described people will either give up outright or just do the season long enough to get the transmogs and then give up.

It’s exactly the same carrot in that regard as the season journey, and as that has shown using a cosmetic as a carrot doesn’t equal long lasting gameplay.

How have they not realized that too much of this outright disrespectful demand to endlessly grind is going to cost them more than just Diablo 3 players? At this point, between WoW PTSD and Diablo 3 DVDA RNG I am considering counseling to end this abusive relationship with Blizzard once and for all. Blaming RNG for disgusting mechanics is a copout. If you want players to have a terrible time then at least show them the respect and tell them you expect them to grind endlessly for DAYS and maybe sometimes almost get what they want, who knows since RNG LOL.

Ah, back in my day if I didn’t enjoy a game any more I just stopped playing it.
When did people start needing professional help to make this decision for them?

Back in your day, grandpa, there weren’t 1000 aspects dragging the game into hell with your soul. There was, oh look Mario passed level 2. Not, Mario passed level 2 but he has to do it 500 more times to get a random buff that he needs for level 3.

Anyone giving an estimate based on PTR is a taking a wild freaking guess. :man_facepalming:t2:

Pulling stats out of the rear end I see…

We are still talking about Diablo, right?
You know, a game about the devil, from hell…

Rogue, Hack and NetHack from the 1980s would like to speak to you about doing things over and over again.

I cant believe that you rant over this achievement. Yes you have to farm them, thats the point of achievement. Gen Z wants everything for free and then rant about it.

GenZ should watch raxx or rykker. Easy done. So much drama… For me ethereals are like the 4th slot in cube or shadow clones… Some overpowered progression help for season… I mean, all the whiners should try to master all the set dungeons… I still have 2 dungeons to master… But ethereals… Come on, it will be much easier…

And some of us old buzzards seem to have an infatuation with doing things the hard way just to pretend we’ve achieved some sort of demonstration of strength of character. Doing simple repetitive tasks just to stay busy is a synonym for wasting time.

It’s supposed to be a promotion for D2:R. Gating the powerful end-game items behind a long-grind and some brutal RNG is fine. No one anywhere is complaining about ethereals being rare. Power should require effort to earn.

But there’s really no great argument for making the art (transmogs) scarce. If anything, you’d want to show off the promotional art. You want to reach as broad a market as you can to increase hype and sales of your new product. You want to reward players and give them something to take home to remind them of that product you’re selling. You give the transmogs to people who participate in the event. Participation trophy? YES! That’s exactly what this cosmetic is! You’re promoting a product and you want people to show off that they’re participating! That’s the whole point of a promotional event - maximize participation.

They do cause of the increased drop rate. They can only guess on how much time / how easy it is to get these. But in game / reality, it is another matter. You most likely won’t get even 1 from a puzzle ring run.

You have your easier achievable cosmetics in form of Guardian rewards. This is a new, extra thing. Take it or leave it.
Devs finally added something interesting to do in a season for people who don’t push the LBs. And it can be done in different ways, unlike in really abusive games (cough, PoE 40, cough). I’m personally looking forward to this season just because that achievement was added.

Fully agree Altera, nice to have reasons to play longer (and more classes) this season
