So, since you have a legendary gem in your crown, the broken crown on your follower does not produce any extra gems. Would it be too much to ask that it actually produces random extra gems. Not soul shards of course. Just a suggestion.
Just throwing it out there: In the current Live game, what happens if you equip the Broken Crown, on your Character or your Follower, with no Gem inserted?
Umm… Aren’t they called Soul Shards? Not “Gems”.
Since the Broken Crown effect emanates, the follower can run without any gem equipped in the helm, and you always get the type of gem that your “toon” has in his helmet.
Except, that is not what this thread is about. So, your comment is irrelevant.
TheDerfman is saying that:
- Your Character has a Legendary Gem in their Helm.
- Your Follower has the Broken Crown equipped.
- Your Character is not getting extra Gems to drop.
And that’s the way it works. In Season 25, we WILL NOT have Legendary Gems to put in our Helm… Not until January.
For example, this is the only Legendary Gem that you can put in your Helm:

Here is a Season 25 Prime Evil Legendary Soul Shard you can put in your Helm:

If your Follower has the Broken Crown equipped, with or without a Gem:
- And your Character has no Gem in their Helm, you get no extra Gems.
- Or your Character has a Legendary Gem in their Helm, you get no extra Gems.
So, the question is:
- If we have a Legendary Soul Shard equipped, should we get extra (Random) Gems to drop?
For purposes of this season the soul shards are legendary gems.
The broken crown will do nothing unless you put a normal gem in your helm.
Tah-MAY-toe, tah-MAH-toe.
That’s exactly what I’ve been saying.
Honestly, that seems okay.
By far the best place to get gems is running vaults with a Broken Crown equipped, cubed, or emanating. Okay, there’s an easy solution: just swap your helm shard for a regular gem when you run vaults! You won’t need the shard to clear a T16 vault, and you’ll get plenty of gems that way. You can then run your shard for all other activities.
I get it’s a bit of an annoyance if you are in the habit of doing other activities with Broken Crown too, but really the only important one is vaults (and rainbow portals too I suppose). And it’s easy enough just to swap out your helm shard to a gem for that activity without really losing anything.
It’s all about choices. When you run rifts and vaults you have to decide if you want max power with the new shards in both weapon and helmet or if you have enough power with the ordinary gem in helmet.
You are correct they are Soul Shards.
I hope you understand, I’m not against your suggestion. I would just understand it if Blizzard decided not to implement it.
Soul Shards probably won’t exist after Season 25 anyway. (Like the Ethereal Weapons).
