The bitter realization

Ok, so hear me out.

Lately I’ve been spending some time playing one of those asian gacha-style mobile games. The gameplay is actually pretty addicting, it is super grindy though. What it basically boils down to, is that you have a few different types of content/dungeons you can farm in order to progress and get better stuff. It’s usually about farming dungeon type #a over and over again (hundreds of runs) in order to get the resources you need to farm dungeon type #b, where you can obtain other resources in order to obtain the characters you want and the gems to gear them up and hopefully do harder content (which is the exact same as the easier content, but enemies have bigger stats).

So yeah, Diablo 3 plays disturbingly similar to a korean grinding game.

We’ve had phones all along.

I’m not sure about what are you trying to say but if is something related to that diablo immortal was hated by community is because is a phone game, probably that is the real problem with immortal, that diablo fans are people that plays on PC and don’t want to play diablo on phone, most of the hate have never happened if diablo immortal would have been multiplatform (PC and Phone).

Also i don’t have a phone q.q

I think this can be generally applied to any rpg typed end game. It’s mostly about grinding the same content over and over again in the hopes of raising stats/getting better gear so that you can be more efficient at grinding the same content.

That’s why if you take a moment and step back, gaming is might be entertaining but a big waste of time.

You mean asian grinding games play a lot like Diablo. The Diablo franchise has been around waaayyyy longer than smart phones.

Not sure which game you’re comparing to bur you’re probably right. End-game Diablo 3 is actually grinding on an ARPG without story. RPG without story is just arithmatics and ACT part of D3 is very small.

That’s why Diablo is actually good for a mobile game, but BLZ /Netease may be doing the wrong thing. The right way to make Diablo-mobile is like Hearthstone to WoW: don’t port it, make a new game. Keep arithmatic and grinding and make the battle automatic. Sure few D3 players will like it but who cares? It’s a different game type and should attract new players.

Being grindy isn’t really the problem. D1 and D2 were grindy, but they didn’t have “asian mmo-like” things like upgrading gems with a chance of failure and ridiculously big/infinitely growing numbers, not to mention player characters with wings that look like they’re straight out of Mu Online.

Those are things that I’ve seen in games before, all of which usually were free 2 play mmos from china or korea.

Even the change in artstyle from D2 to D3 made the game look more like Mu Online than like Diablo.

That’s what I’m poking fun at. I’m not even saying it’s bad. I’m just saying the Diablo development team clearly likes this style of game.

Maybe D4 will be with anime like chars and cinematics than :face_with_raised_eyebrow:
