Take it from me, I grinded the GG and the plans for nearly 3 straight days, about 6-8 hours a day. I was shocked at how unlucky it could get.
SOLUTION:
-CREATE GAME ON MASTER, NOT T1-T16!!!
-FARM IZUAL FIRST, PLANS SHOULD DROP RELATIVELY QUICKLY
-FARM CHILLTARA, PAY ATTENTION TO THE CHAT WINDOW, ONCE IT SAYS YOU’VE KILLED HER, CHECK MINI MAP FOR LEGENDARY, PRESS T FOR TOWN, REPEAT
I farmed 2 using this method, 1st run right under 1 hour. Second run about 1.5 hrs.
You want to do it on master because it limits the pool of legendries that Chilltara drops. In fact there’s only 1 legendary that she can drop…its the GG. Same for the plans if you’ve been as unlucky with both as I have.
For future reference, if its an RNG legendary “quest/material/etc” item use MASTER and save yourself the dread

I had everything done for the SoH in about 30 runs on T16.

Good for you, this post is not for you then. This is for the people who spent a weekend farming two rng drops and got the worst possible outcome. Its also to let blizzard know that its not just bad rng but it can get THIS bad.
Appreciate the feedback, here’s a cookie

Like I said in another thread. Most every time a saw Chilltara (about 20) she was right next to the obelisk stuck in a corner. If you are not paying attention the GG could be behind the obelisk and it will be tricky to click on it. In some cases, it is just player error in others it is RNG. Sorry, I did not need your “best way.”

I have a big doubt that the gem is indicated on the mini-map…
After checking, it does not appear on the mini-map, but there is a sound that indicates its presence

It’s not indicated on the mini-map.
Maxroll.gg for the actual best guide on how to farm GG, imo. Sorry, if this opinion offends OP.

Do it in campaign.
She has 100% chance to be there if cof is up.
Not sure why more people dont know this.

Are you sure about that? I did it on Normal and got a scythe at some point.
I did a few runs on T16 but that was not one of them unless I am totally mistaken.
Chiltara spawns every time in campaign mode. It’s one way to farm it. However, the frost caverns still only spawn as much as they do in adventure mode. But when you see it, you’ll know Chiltara is in there. Of course, the trade off is you don’t get to see the two bounties that indicate the frost caverns aren’t there, allowing you to instantly remake the game. But I do think the trade off is worth it.
Ha! That explains why I did it so fast. I was doing it on T11 since I like to see him before elimation. 13th Chiltara dropped me GG
I farmed her on campaign for about 3 hours, like I said I really did try everything.
Makes me wonder how many people just aren’t seeing it because they are expecting to see an orange beam (and the mini-map icon) like there is for legendaries. Overlooking it, thinking it is a veiled crystal?

Bad news everyone unfortunately the item is a % drop rate and it’s all about RNG.

This as well I am sure some people just missed it. Not paying attention.
It is that rare. I already had the pet salvage/pick up everything. I am also stupid OCD, so I pick up veiled crystals and whatnot. When I finished the maps, everything was looted. I know you get no beam, so I always had the “alt” key held to see if anything dropped.
My data:
Ran all on T16
Did 98 runs
COF appeared 48 times
Chiltara appeared 36 times
1 Gibbering Gemstone
This data fits in with what most people are saying where COF appears 1/2 the time, Chiltara was buffed to around 80-90% appearance, and the drop rate from Chiltara for the GG is less than 5%. If you put these stupid odds together, the chance on making a game and getting the stupid GG is less than 2%. Some people are lucky and found faster, some are RNG cursed and it took a lot longer.
The really interesting part is, so many people whined and cried about Maddening Questions drop rate that they removed that, but everyone seemed fine with potentially grinding the GG for hours.
I did loot 4600 dbs in the runs, so guess not a total waste of time.

Read my other post (and others who have said same thing). In campaign mode Chiltara appears 100% of the time when CoF spawns.
Yups but I have no interest in grinding through 2 and a half acts of campaign for a 10-20% more spawn chance when you find the COF. Even with that increased chance, there is less than a 3% chance you could make a game and get the GG. It is a very rare drop for a completely useless artifact.
Your choice. Flying thru first 2 1/2 acts took about 30 mins, but if someone wants to spend hours in Adventure mode grinding they can certainly do that if they want to.

Doing Campaign changes your odds of the GG dropping at game creation from just under 2% to 2.5%. It is a negligible difference. Either way, this is still a strong chance many players are going to do over 100 runs to find this useless item, and that is my point. All the other pieces are significantly easier to find. Whether it is a 1/40 chance or 1/60 chance, there is no point to make it this rare except for the sake of stacking RNG.
You are missing the point. In campaign Chiltara has a 100% chance of being in the CoF - she’s not in Adventure. Player gets all excited ‘YAY, CoF spawned’, they clear it but she’s not there. Wasted opportunity. Lather, rinse, repeat. In campaign you KNOW she is there. Increased odds!
Players can do as they please. All I know is that when I started the hunt for it I had it in less than 2 hours. I didn’t spend 5 days, getting mad, punching holes in the wall, pulling my hair out, kicking the dog, punching my monitor, losing sleep, etc.
But whatever, you do you. The option is available.
