This is a big let down for me and my brother. I really hope after launch its reenable able by editing config files or something.
This was really one of the features I was really happy I thought they were keeping.

Confused.
But I very well missed some announcement.
Last I knew:
By default online play is now hosted on dedicated servers rather than locally, but you can still host a game locally and make it findable through Battle.net. āYou can even go back to TCP/IP connections if you want,ā Fergusson said. āBecause it was there in D2, weāre going to keep it there in D2R.ā
Maybe thatās changed.
Would be sad as I sort of miss LAN parties.
in the beta announcement page, near bottom is says they arent having tcp/ip at beta or at launch.
I hope its enable able with config edits or something after launch cause I like that.
Iām going to assume it allowed access to places they didnāt want to allow, but I also expect them to clamp down on anyoneās ability to make a mod for D2R past UI and HUD changes. They let D2 go mod crazy because they didnāt have a reason to care but now they have a product again.
Just a rant though.
I see.
They say they found potential security risksā¦ to the player. So they removed support.
Alas. This was a feature I wanted them to keep, too.
Does anyone know how this will affect mods when you want to play with a friend?
Like mods are pure solo play now or hopefully a private host can have modsā¦if not its tempting to cancel the preorderā¦i wanted to play with a friend with a couple of balancing skills mods but if thats not possible i dont see me wanting to play this completely solo.
Ok, this is a straight refund for me, because it was advertised we WOULD have TCP/IP.
For those who donāt know, it means you wonāt be able to play āofflineā in LAN with friends or family, like back in the day. You want to trade items with your friend who also has an offline character ? well, that will no longer be possible.
Yeah this does suck, itās a perfectly good reason to refund.
I do understand if there are security issues though, so I guess if it helps that end, itās worth it to me.
i dont quite get the issue thoā¦ what do you need tcp ip for ? you can play together via battlenet on a lan party aswell ?
While super disappointing, it isnāt exactly a deal breaker yet for me. However, it is now imperative to ungate ladder modes so players can experience the full game online for the longterm grind. It also makes me wonder if removing it is a sign that single player offline might get removed or if they do in fact, plan on updating the game post launch to make mods less appealing and retain more of a playerbase on the official game.
Not all LANs connect to the internet.
This is a big deal in some places/countries.
There will be some refunds because of this.
Many players love single player, and only want to play multiplayer with certain people, especially on mods. This is crippling to that.
I must admit that I fail to see a real issue here, but thatās probably because I never encountered a situation with a closed network (multiple computers / no internet access).
Usually itās either solo play on an isolated computer (like where you canāt have internet available) or online when the computer has access to the internet. Both these modes will be implemented.
Now that I think of it, It will also completely kill speedrunning on the remaster, since you can no longer reset maps. Apparently even MrLamaSC sadly reacted to this on reddit. And no Iām not talking about the difficulty switch to reset a map, you canāt do that before reaching nightmare.

Well, if you have an offline character you built for whatever reason, you cannot play it with friends anymore, it will stay alone forever. Want to give that sweet Immortal King set to your friend who is trying to finish Hell with his offline Barb ? Well too bad itās gone you cannot.
If this tcp thing allowed cheating or botting then wouldnāt that be a good thing [to remove it]?
Another big kick in the nuts for mod makers and people wanting to play mods with their friends.
That refund button is looking for tempting by the dayā¦
TCP/IP doesnt connect to Bnet so thats unlikely. People already re enabled it on Alpha version. So, I hope people can config edit it back in after launch.
Well, you can also cheat in singleplayer but thereās no reason to remove that too, donāt you think?
The removal of TCP/IP badly hurts the gameās longevity.
What about Open Battle.Net? Is that removed too?
havent seen them talk about it at all. one can hope.
