Tankiest solo build ever?

Im wondering what the tankiest solo pushing build ever was. Trags necro possibly takes the crown with both absurd defensives and healing letting you basically facetank everything but there might be something else I’m missing since I don’t play other classes as much

Frenzy barb is extremely tanky this season. Close to 80% dodge chance on top of all the other damage mitigation and huge sustain with simplicity strength. Only dune dervishes pose a threat. In the past, I remember LoD Hydras being extremely tanky as well.

I think thorns Crusader has a namesake here.

Wizard Firebird Flameblade with Orb of Infinite Depth and Halo of Karini. Three 80% damage reduction will grant 125x toughness multiplier.

And there are Captain Crimson, Aughild, as well as shield generation from skill/passive on top of that.

It can be somewhat annoying to keep both OoID and Halo active, but since Firebird can eliminate teleport cooldown it’s manageable.

Dodge is kind of faux tankiness. It makes you often take zero damage as you don’t get hit at all but when you do get hit, it hurts a lot.

Defense vs Offense.

I am now trying out Tal Rasha and it kills super fast!
squishy though at barely half the toughness of Necro Trag

Tank aside, go with Akkhan with its free cheat death every 10 seconds.

I know. It’s not reliable if you don’t have other layers of toughness. Especially when there are 100 things hitting you and 10 different monster affixes. I just see as a bonus. On top of other barbarian dmg reduction items (band of might, etc).

LOD bombardment crusader once I have my stone gauntlet stacks up. This is on top of aquila cuirass, justice lantern, massive block chance, and near 100% uptime of multple defensive cooldowns. It’s several billion in toughness even a paragon 1500. Unless I go marinate in 10 simultaneous molten explosions my health barely drops in a GR130.

I also play thorns invoker with comparable gear quality. It also has good toughness this season, but it simply can’t accommodate as many defensive items as LOD bombardment. It’s called a thorns build, but you are really using melee attacks to deliver all of your thorns damage. If anyone loved the fantasy of a D2 zealot, then this is your build.

Overall, the crusader class is really fun to play in S28 because of the altar bonus that gives an empowered shrine proc from using potions. A 10 minute buff uptime for 50% additional CDR (multiplicative) is huge for this class because it’s so reliant on cooldowns.

Top streamers generally rate crusader last place this season, but you’ll find a lot of fun here with the S28 theme.

I find LoD wizard builds to be very tanky

I find Barb builds in general to be tanky

Monk too but haven’t played enough to know for sure.

Ever?

Well that’s any DH build that used Smoke Screen after they introduced Captain Crimson’s and before Blizzard made the cooldown start after that cast elapsed. For a brief time on the PTR, DH’s were able to be invulnerable to all damage thanks to Perma-Smoke Screen.

But Blizzard unfortunately came to their senses and fixed it.

Once I found a crusader build that could go AFK in GR150 Hardcore…
(Allegedly, I only personally tested in GR100, successfully)
(plus you had to level up some never used gem to really optimise it!)

However… it couldn’t kill anything either! ^^

Nah, monks had it easier with permanent Serenity. DHs have to worry about discipline.

In the season where the theme was elemental effects, and one of them was a massive rolling snowball, we had zBarbs doing solo GR150s whilst being pretty much unable to even kill trash mobs.
