I couldn’t find a suggestion channel, so please excuse me if there would have been a better place to post this.
So as to my suggestion: I think it would be really interesting, to have a custom mode editor. The idea is people can create different modes and then publish them (they can be private, public). Any one playing the same mode can join together and then play by the same rule set.
The mode governs as much as technical possible. Drop Chances, Options such as free pick mode, max levels, game mechanics (i.e. turn of rifts or turn on specific season mecahnics) and what I think would be interesting, different versions of gear, spells. Not necessarily entirely new spells and items, but just old versions. So in the most conservative way it would allow to set a system like an older version of the game. Or a mode might boost the game to be much faster.
My motivation is, that I personally would really enjoy a more vanilla game feeling. Much slower drop rates, having even any kind of set bonus being more of an achievment rather than a guarantee and then you not even get to choose. I prefer this over having your perfect set on day one and then just grind for minor improvements. It forces you more to deal with what you get, rather than just follow some meta blindly.
Also with moderated public modes, communities could make sure not to have cheaters in their mode and then have their very own leaderboards.
I’m sure this idea could be expanded on, but since its probably already asked a lot, I guess I will leave it at that for now. If you like the idea, maybe leave a reply, so maybe it gets noticed.

It is a lovely thought, however, not only is the game no longer being actively developed, it is highly unlikely that they would allow that much control over the game on the client side.
You are, in effect, asking them to allow Modding in D3. Keep wishing.

You’re absolutely right. There should definitely be a “editor” in Diablo 4 at least.

Ya, they like their control and pretty much disdain the modding community. They originally planned to have modding in D4, but then changed their mind. They don’t want anyone seeing that code.
Sad part is, modding would be a great way to test stuff and have it added to the game while saving Blizz a ton of money in development. Guess they are terrified about knock-off games coming off their code.

The sandbox in Starcraft and WC3 was pretty cool. I never got into that but my son did.
I’m not a huge fan of RTS games or having to group and drag.
I didn’t like that about Icewind Dale, either, although I liked the D&D RPG aspect.
Going back to 20 plus year old playstyles holds little interest for me.

There isn’t.
A DRM-only game usually won’t allow you to do that as it requires crucial information to be stored elsewhere; be it server side clutter or client side for backdoors. At best it risks splitting the community between many outlets and it becomes harder to get accurate statistics for balancing the game in the long run.
They could’ve pull such thing in home console versions of the game, but I guess it would just fan the flames of it being hacked even faster, so they refrain from doing so.
You’re talking about private servers and Blizzard’s procedures against such thing is strict. To add, you are around 10 years too late to demand that. There’s already a private server for Diablo 3 classic if it didn’t get shutdown yet. Doing a web search might help you.
I remember the warcraft 3 world editor. I spent so much more time in that than actually playing the base game.
Then a few guys basically invented the MOBA genre in it, created very popular maps and eventually went on to create the company that makes league of legends (forget the name). Blizzard tried to make heroes of the storm to compete but league of legends basically ate their lunch.
So blizzard and the few other game companies that used to include editors in their game learned their lesson and cool things like that will never happen again. Especially in the age of battle passes and DLC and greed.
Did they ever fix the custom campaign function in Warcraft 3 remaster? The game so bad it broke the original. Having to pirate a game I legally own just to be able to play my own custom campaigns is so stupid.

For a company that is so obsessed with extending the life of the few titles they have, it is sad that they shy away from things that will do that for them. Believe it or not, there are companies out there that not only allow modding, but highlight it, and still make plenty of money. Maybe not Bobby Kottick 5 yacht, 3 private plane money, but more than enough to keep the doors open.
Well, this is a company obsessed with control. Everyone has to sign a NDA. Hell, even their CM’s can’t give a simple answer to important questions without going through many levels of vetting. Even then, they aren’t going to give an answer, cuz control.

It’s rumored that real story is even more interesting. IceFrog, one of the co-creators of DotA, while it was still a mere Warcraft 3 map, went to Blizzard and got shown the door because they were developing their own so-called Blizzard DotA at that time.
To be honest from what I saw, Blizzard managed to make it fun too, but eventually they pulled the support because it wasn’t profitable or well monetized.
I think it’s due copyrights. Their choice was so backwards and bad, it should have no excuse.

Thank you all, for your thoughts on the matter. I do mostly agree, that this is asked a lot and more than likely won’t happen. Although then there are other surprises in other titles.
However I do think my idea was misinterpreted a little. I didnt mean for anyone to run private servers or even having to expose any code. I meant simply to have like an editor in the game for certain parameters, that you can set to a specific value and then publish this set of parameters as a game mode. Players can then chose such a game mode from a list and can create characters in that game mode and play with others in that game mode (which is just a specific rule set) on the normal Blizzard Servers. Assume Hardcore might be a game mode only that is a standard game mode by Blizzard and you can choose others from the custom game mode list.
So lets make a very simple example. Lets say you don’t like torment levels. So you chose the option to disable torment and instead manually set difficulty modes for each act. All by using the ingame interface and setting parameters. You might disable the function rifts and then you might make it a bit more grindy by setting Exp gain and drop rates low. Again you code non of that. You are limited to the amount of parameters given (which would hopefully be extensive).
Once done you save your parameters and other might find it in a list of possible game modes. All players of the same mode have a common chat and can join each others games just like season and normal mode players are split from one another.
I just wanted to clarify this a little more. Although I do agree with most of the opinions here, that its just not likely.
