After noticing how blazing fast GoD + Displacement + Tactical Advantage was, I was curious if you could run Sprinter with Strafe and GoD4 instead of Vault and Danetta’s.
Did a bit of a proof of concept run, and it turns out that yes, you can! I soloed it in 57m15s (with several minutes lost to major mistakes because I was getting tired), so this is definitely a viable setup, both for group Sprinter attempts, and also for solo if you’re ambitious.
Note my timer is following the Diablo III: Reaper of Souls - Speedrun Any% NG+ rules, the actual Sprinter in game is timed a bit differently. Timer starts a bit earlier (when you press Start Game instead of on first movement game) and ends a bit earlier (when Malthael finishes his death explosion instead of on talking to Tyrael). It ends up being about the same overall time anyway though.
This was my second run, my game crashed partway through Act 5 on the first run so I had to restart. Was getting a bit tired in this run, and made a huge mistake in Act 2. My overall time was 57:15, but if you subtract off the 2 minutes I lost in Act 2, it would have been closer to the 55 min mark, that’s actually not that far off my Vault DH PB!
I could definitely improve my rotation too, at times I had a hard time executing my Strafe + generator + Smoke Screen rotation while still executing other aspects of a Sprinter run (e.g. certain NPC dialogue/window cancellation patterns).
The build setup
I show my setup at 57:30 in the video: https://youtu.be/UTYMYRu8k_I?t=3450
General idea with the build is just to stack as much movement speed as physically possible. God4 + Strafe, Displacement + Tactical Advantage, Hot Pursuit, Krelm’s + Warzechian’s, Shadow Power: Glide (+ Shadow 4p to keep it up all the time so you don’t have to cast it), Hoarder + Wreath of Lightning. Stack enough CDR for Vengeance, and then as much RCR as possible (for spamming Smoke Screen).
You could also do a build variant where you work in Rechel’s Ring + stack some fear chance (e.g. fear on helm + Rechel’s Ring & Pandemonium Loop worn), but in my experience unless you are on a class that has an actual fear skill (barb, WD), it just doesn’t trigger enough from fear chance on gear in a Sprinter run to bother with.
You could also change up your weapon, off-hand, and cube options. I liked the idea of wearing Dawn and cubing Echoing Fury for a little more movement speed, but you could potentially wear Yang’s and cube Dawn. Or wield a Fortress Ballista in your off-hand instead of Ninth Cirri Satchel (you really don’t need the DPS on Normal, you’ll still wipe everything without NCS) for a shield to keep Pride’s Fall and Krelm’s buffs up. That would let you ditch Gizzard for another gem, e.g. Gogok.
Why would you want to use build this instead of Danetta’s Vault?
Well, there’s a few reasons.
- If you have high latency and have a hard time with vault rubberbanding, a straight running build should be a lot easier for you to control and execute. This plays similarly to a max MS Manajuma Chicken doc for Sprinter, and I know a lot of people with high latency like to use because it’s easier for them to control. This gives people another option. And I think with some practice, GoD4 Strafe is actually faster than a chicken doc.
- You’ve run Sprinter for 20 seasons now, are getting a bit bored with the traditional Danetta’s setup and just want something different.
