I love having the Star of Azkaranth cubed. It seems that most of the elites are molten and it’s nice to be able to stand right in the middle of the explosions when they go off and not worry about it.
But I’m finding that in echoing nightmares, it’s not protecting me. There are molten explosions going off all over the place and I think it’s offering a little protection, but when a serious group of them go off and I’m in the middle of it, I die.
I really don’t think I’m missing anything, like something different killing me. I’m surviving everything they can throw at me, but when the explosions go off, I die at that exact moment.
Things are different in the nightmares than elsewhere. The explosions are changed to physical (if I remember correctly) so there is nothing that can get us immunity to damage.
Someone else will give a more detailed explanation.
I’ve also noticed that the necro ring, Brigg’s Wrath (that pulls in cursed monsters doesn’t work in ENS).
Well that sucks. So I assume that the Star of Azkaranth is worthless in the cube for nightmares? Any other changes? Poison pools attack as arcane damage?
Yor profile is hidden. Generally speaking it’s good to have some tougness and mobility (not being a glass cannon), the templar with his healing and cheat death, and another cheat death in passives. Pay attention to “machinations” that can occur at the edges and spawn streams of monsters… kill them as soon as possible. Take the speed and channeling pylon maybe at around wave 50 or a bit higher depending on how it goes. Power and conduit at around 100… with conduit at around 100 it should be able to carry you up to 125 plus.
I think maxroll has a guide.
… when counduit has worked for a while with you attacking also it will often be enough just to run around along the edges to get the last waves done.
This is because in the past, every time I’d ask a simple straightforward question, like “What’s a good way to farm Death’s Breath?”, I’d invariably get answers along the lines of “Well you shouldn’t worry about death’s breath because here are 47 things that are wrong with your build. Number 1) [ … ]”
And that holds true here. The answers that people have offered in this thread are true across all characters and builds. Star of Azkaranth is useless in echoing nightmares, no matter who you are and how you’re built.
By curiosity, can you tell what class you’re playing? Some are better at EN’s than others. although all classes have certain builds that perform better. Maybe we can suggest a better build in your preferred class for you?
I too was disappointed to find out the “star” was useless there. As you don’t need that much damage in ENs other things can be cubed such as the unity ring etc.
Star of Azkaranth is my preferred ammie for general farming.
and pick up any drops without gettin’ killed by them blowin’-up molten heads.
Most useful ammie in EN is probably Flavor of Time for double pylon duration.
My main is DH, and when ENs were introduced, the best DH build for 'em was Marauder/Multishot. With the Altar, GoD also works quite well due to its crazy mobility while spraying arrows all over the map.
I don’t even think about touching any pylons until at least tier 90, but then I do as Jazz suggests. Power pylon is 3rd, but wait as long as possible before grabbin’ zap pylon. (Unless something trips my death cheat and pisses me off–then it’s Game On! with the zap pylon!)
The meteor explosions in Nightmares deal damage based on your maximum health percentage and they can not be resisted by anything. Similar thing goes by Molten in Echoing Nightmare and they bypass any immunity granted by amulets. Haven’t tested throughly but it’s also likely that Molten explosion from Fallen Maniacs work with same mechanics and deal damage from your maximum health percentage, bypassing any resistances.
Immunity amulets only could be handy if you are a non-homing projectile heavy build and potentially some certain monsters can deflect your projectiles back at you. Getting in the way of your own deflected projectile usually costs you a cheat-death passive, or at some instances an instant knockout. If you don’t fit that description, there is little to no point wearing immunity amulets in Nightmares.
If you want some protection in Nightmares, best course of action is getting St. Archew’s Gage; that small item allowing you to tank quite a few instances of burst damage. While this will require you to reduce your own damage output, the Pylons in the area still can carry your weight up to tier 125.
If you want to have control you can bring a pair of them with you and right click to equip them as you come near the tier 100+ where you supposed to click Damage Pylon.
I haven’t 47 things to say. But on your seasonal Impale DH with 555 paragon points; why do you have a ruby in your primal Karlei’s? Vitality gems in chest and pants isn’t the best form of damage mitigation. And lots of your items could need rerolls at the Mystic (you have an unrolled helmet with multishot for example). If you are playing solo the Templar could do with a “can’t die” relic.
Ok, first of all, I sincerely appreciate the selfless attempt to help me. I honestly do. But I’m not the same sort of player as the rest of you.
I started playing D3 less than a week after the ROS expansion dropped. So just a hair over 10 years ago. I really loved the game. Got my cousin involved and we played a lot. I was mostly a barb, then got into a wizard and stuck with that for a year. Then I watched a Rhykker video on Shadow Impale Demon Hunter and I never looked back.
Then I started to get tired of the game. No matter what, it was always the same thing. Kill the same mobs over and over (and over and over and over) with the chance that you might get something that would improve your current character, making it possible for me to do GRs five levels higher than I was doing before. But ultimately I get to a point where I wonder why I’m wasting my life doing this? It gets tedious.
Sure, I can try a different build on my DH. Or I can get really crazy and experiment with a totally new character. But it doesn’t take long where the sameness of it all starts to eat at me again.
I was mostly away from D3 for the past few years. When I gave it a try recently, I discovered that they’d added the visions portal and this offered a who new fun part to the game and it’s been keeping me occupied.
But really not so much that I care about the details. I’m absolutely sure that I don’t have my gear re-rolled properly, nor the correct gems where they should be. But for me, it’s just a simple mindless way to burn off 1-2 hours in the morning while I’m drinking my coffee and before I’m ready to get into the meat of my day. I’m sorry if that pisses people off who care more deeply about the game, but that’s the truth.
So you’re really better off helping someone more deserving of the help.
I’m absolutely not trying to be condescending in any way. I haven’t a single original idea myself. Everything about the game and how to play it is something I have learned from others. I’m just copying and sometimes experimenting a bit within what is possible.
You don’t need a new build, just a few simple rerolls here and there could be enough.
I also like to mindlessly burn off some hours playing the game. But it is always more fun to do it with a build that just blasts everything away.
You’re kind of giving mixed signals here. People just trying to help because you asked for it. If you need to know some more mechanics of Echoing Nightmares, here’s a good guide for you to consider reading: https://maxroll.gg/d3/resources/echoing-nightmare-explained
There is nothing wrong at all with that mindset. Some people take certain games a lot more serious than others. Don’t let trolls like that try passive-aggressively critiquing you, especially when they’re not even seasoned enough to do so. Some of us have test characters that we use to compare things to, so we can experiment ourselves instead of only playing because of how someone else told you to.
Sometimes, we find a particular “build” that we’re just comfortable with. There may be little tweaks one can do to it so that it doesn’t go off the beaten path into something you’re not comfortable with.
Yes, it can get tedious, but we waste our time as a gap filler. I’ve skipped seasons before when there was something better to play. When there isn’t anything that’s of my taste, this is one of the common games I’ll come back to if I just want to wreak havoc for a while.
Here is a good definition of a troll: In slang, a troll is a person who posts deliberately offensive or provocative messages online (such as in social media, a newsgroup, a forum, a chat room, an online video game) or who performs similar behaviors in real life. The methods and motivations of trolls can range from benign to sadistic. These messages can be inflammatory, insincere, digressive, extraneous, or off-topic, and may have the intent of provoking others into displaying emotional responses, or manipulating others’ perception, thus acting as a bully or a provocateur. The behavior is typically for the troll’s amusement, or to achieve a specific result such as disrupting a rival’s online activities or purposefully causing confusion or harm to other people. Trolling behaviors involve tactical aggression to incite emotional responses, which can adversely affect the target’s well-being.
