Star Gems Dropping Instead of Imperial Gems

Was running my usual T10 daily bounty runs when I noticed that the gems that were dropping were Flawless Star Gems (that sub-level 61 characters get) and not the Imperial Gems (that level 61+) characters get. The Act V bounty chest had Star Gems … oh, and I was running my Witch Doctor who’s over 800 paragon. The bounty chest did have the other mats but I did not count to see if it was correct number ( should’ve been 10, I believe). Anyways the Star Gems stood out in inventory against the stacks of Imperial and Flawless Imperial gems I have (saving up to get 5k stacks of each, lol).

There’s no such thing as “Flawless Star Gems”. And Star Gems do not drop…   ever. They can only be crafted.

Imperial Gems can drop at Level 61 on Master Difficulty and lower. But, they rarely do. They begin to drop more often once you are on Torment I and higher.

At Level 61+ Marquis Gems begin dropping. Once you hit Level 70 and are on T1 or higher, you should see only Marquis and Imperial Gems drop.

If you are having issues with the quality of Gems that are dropping for you, please post a link to a screenshot showing the Gems you are getting.

Ah, my mistake on the “Name” I was using… The issue is that a level 70 character is getting Flawless Square Gems from a Torment 10 bounty run… And that is the problem - and my mistake on the name of the gems which are Marquise and Imperial and even my mistake on the Title of the post - Flawless Square gems not Star Gems.

No screen shot needed … as I just logged in to D3 on the WD and am still showing the Flawless Square Gems in inventory that he obtained during the bounty run yesterday and even the bounty chest had Flawless Square gems … It also appears that the bounty rewarded 3 crafting materials for the Act V bounty and not the 10 that would be expected from the same bounty on Torment 10 as was run yesterday. So, it appears that not only did the wrong type of gems drop but that the bounty reward itself was given for a sub-torment level run (normal - master level).

Yesterday I started the game as I normally do, T10 public bounties. Today I changed that to private so I could look at inventory and such and this allows me to see the gems in inventory and look at my Materials list and see that the bounty counts are off - I always make sure all 5 bounty material counts are even (personal OCD - useful for other things). So after yesterdays T10 Act v public bounty I find that the Westmarch Holy water count is at 1086 and the other bounty mats are at 1083 - a difference of 3. And 3 bounty mats is what you would expect to receive from a bounty chest run at Normal to Master difficulty.

So, even though I am a Paragon 823 witch doctor and was in a Torment 10 public game I received gems drops and bounty mats equivalent to what a sub-torment and sub-level 70 character would receive … something was/is definitely wrong here.

Actually, a screenshot might help. Since you were playing public game, it is possible that the game dropped you into a sub-70 level game. There have been reports where low-level players were joining level 70 games, so it’s possible that the opposite can happen.

I thought about this too. But, even so, at Level 70 and Paragon 823 they should still only be seeing Marquis and Imperial Gems drop.

If the game is started by a sub-level 61 player, the lower level gems drop until that player passes the threshold.
If that player passes 61 in a Rift, the lower gems may still drop until a new Rift is started above 61.
I have seen this many times while helping friends, especially when they are recovering from an early HC death with no decent gear.

The game level is determined by who first creates the game. If a higher-level player joins, he/she will still be getting items based on that level. So if the OP joined a game instead of creating it, it is possible that they were dumped into a low-level game.

The item Level is determined by the Character Level. Not the Game Difficulty. And all players get their own drops. So, on Normal Difficulty, a Level 30 Character will get Level 30 items and Square Gems.

In that same game, a Level 70 Character will get Level 70 items and Marquise (possibly Imperial) Gems, as seen in the image below.

Your screen shot shows a Normal (70) game. That is, started by a level 70 character.
If this were a T6 (58), there would be 58 level gear and gems.

You are correct. It’s been a long time since I played in groups.

Perhaps someone could test this with a Friend. I only play Solo these days. (I could have sworn that when I helped friends in the past, I was still getting Level 70 items despite joining their lower-Level games. Maybe I’m mistaken).

Good point.

The OP claims that it was a T10 game. With no screenshot, who knows?

But I joined a Torment 10 game … how would someone under level 70 even be able to start a Torment 10 game?

yeah kinda late on screen-shots… something to consider if I’m unfortunate enough to see this again.

ah well, another mystery …

Yes, I see that. Very strange. I was mainly responding to Perusoe.

Only thing that makes sense is that is wasn’t a T10 game. The easiest explanation is usually the correct one, and in this case it was most likely user error.
