Staff of Herding Question

I did not get a chance to play on the PTR . But I was wondering if anyone actually did any CoF /Chiltara runs . If so did the stone drop in a timely manor or was it still the near impossible drop it had become.

I decided to make a staff again 2-3 seasons ago after mot making one for a long long time. To make a long story short I stopped keeping track a bit after 5k runs with no stone dropping. It was beyond frustrating and just wondering if they finally fixed the drop rate heading into a season where it is basically required to advance after a certain point .

Any observations or answers to this question would be helpful

Thanks, Agmo
Happy hunting and may RNGesus smile upon you tomorrow .

There was no mention of tweaked drop rates in the patch notes at least, so I wouldn’t hold my breath.

Ya, I had not seen anything so was just wondering if they might have tweaked the drop rate without saying anything. A few dozen runs would give you an idea if you could get a few to drop . Because a single drop could just be good RNG but if someone could get 2-3 in a short time frame it would give a good idea that they finally adjusted it .

The Stone simply put is the hardest drop in the game ATM . And Unless they fixed it the forum is gonna explode because not a lot of people have actually tried farming the silly thing. Because most people see it as pointless in the grand scheme of the game until now.

I have created several staffs (not in PTR) and have never had any major issue obtaining the items. However, I am not a GR fisher who looks for the easy rifts nor do I care about the cheater boards, so I use my time doing other things.

On the PTR, the Staff of Herding was in a Loot Bag that you bought from a vendor, so there was no need to farm the parts for it.

I made one each of the first 11ish seasons. And then stopped when at some point the stone just stopped dropping. I had a random drop of one doing a bounty 3-4 seasons ago but beyond that I haven’t been able to get one to drop to save my life. I decided to make one for yucks 2-3 seasons ago and couldn’t get the stone to drop. I stopped counting somewhere over 5k runs with out it dropping. ( I also just do other things never been a huge GR fan, Mostly just killing stuff for fun and drops)

Every season I have tried to, I have made the Staff. However, I think it has fewer requirements on console (no Liquid Rainbow, for example) so it is easier to target Chiltara. Although… one season it took me almost 50 times through the Cathedral to get the damn Mushroom.

Ya .I figured as much but you never know if someone decided to check out the drop rate. That’s why I was asking if anyone did. I was going to check it myself but with work and RL never had a chance to get on the PTR.

When I decided to make the Staff of hearding during season I could make it inside a week with doing a round of bounties check chiltara and do a couple of rifts, rince and repeat

Wirts original leg I’ve been looking for for at least the last 18 months and still no joy

Since I haven’t used the staff in a million years, you can use it indefinitely to open the portal to Whimsyshire, right?

Never tested it myself, but from what I have seen from several sources it takes about 1 hour to farm it all (give or take), not to bad

Just wait until you have a speedbuild setup, then it goes fast.

Last I was aware they had changed it to drop in story mode not adventure. This was coming from a Tmog group I was in .So not 100% sure if accurate or not. I think its one of those Tmogs you cant pass either not sure. I have a few of the preTmog in the stash but I think I tried and no go.

It was awfuly boreing but ~1hour non-stop farming CoF i got the gem.

I still have on NS the “Hellish staff of herding” from vanilla .

Yes, the Staff of Herding opens a portal Whimsyshire. But do not confuse this with Whimsydale (with the extreme loots and very small chance to get the Cosmic Wings, this is only accessible by killing Rainbow Goblins).

This is going to be a hard one to get! :open_mouth:

No, it’s not. Time consuming definitely but not difficult.

Potatoe, tomatoe!

This last season I ran 100’s & 100’s trying to get the gem stone. Never got it and you can only get from Craven of Frost. Yes I have got in the past and have the staff.

They better change the drop from the 0.05 or 0.1%. You going have a lot piss off people. People are worry about the gem stone. What about Primal’s you going to need them to make ash. The one area you going to need ash for the Altar.

Yes the drop is suppose to be every 400 drop. But how many threads have we had complaining about drops rate. Do you know you will need 6 primal’s to help finish the Altar. There people out never ever get that many a whole season.

So I get a Primal that I can use on my character. But wait do I use it or salvage it to use ash on the Altar. The casual player will never finish the Altar.

So people are worry about the gem stone, but don’t worry about other things they need. The Altar is not for the casual player it is there only really for the elite player.

Mark my words with in 4 to 6 weeks into the season. You will have a lot topic’s on how bad it is to finish the Altar.

That is indeed extremely unnecessary imo, one primal per potion should be enough, especially since everyone will grab the altar potion with the gr70 primal anyway. I can definitely see myself not wanting to sacrifice three primals for the last (and very underwhelming) potion instead of using the materials to craft a primal I might actually use…
