Staff of Herding (Hard Core), so I did it

Okay I posted my SC experience crafting the Staff of Hearding.
-T16 with a Blood Nova Necro at 800+ Para

This is my HC experience and it was tons better.
-T14 PoJ Monk at 650+ Para

It took me 17 games in HC in 70 minutes.

Game 1: Plans: Staff of Herding (only one Izual kill)
Game 3: Leoric’s Shin Bone
Game 8: Gibbering Gemstone
Game 9: Black Mushroom
Game 17: Liquid Rainbow

Caverns of Frost: 4 spawns
Chiltara: 2 Spawns
Bounty: The second Chiltara spawn

Mysterious Cave: 2 spawns
Bounty: The second spawn

Edit.

VS. my Soft Core experience with a Necro.

I made 53 games.

Game 1: I got the book from Izual
Game 11: I got the Black Mushroom and Leoric’s Shinbone
Game 28: I got the Liquid Rainbow
Game 53: I got the Gibbering Gemstone and Wirt’s Bell

It took me 5 Mysterious Caves to get the Liquid Rainbow
It took me 29 Caverns of Frost to get the Gibbering Gemstone
Chiltara spawned 23 times

It took me a little over 3 hours to grind the Staff of Herding

Yeah, I thought I had it rough with Soft Core only to find out that I had it easy compared to many who made 100’s of games till they completed the Staff of Herding. So… I thought it would be roughly the same in Hard Core, and as it turned out, I was even luckier. Heck, I got the Gibbering Gemstone on the second Chiltara kill and before I got the Liquid Rainbow. Talk about RNG.

The game is RNG. What is the point of this post?

Ah let him be happy about it. Takes very little effort to be generous in your replies.

He is just giving the rest of us hope that it won’t take 1000 games to get it.

This one? Compare and contrast to my Soft Core post. Nothing more. Plus, to hear others experiences as well in HC. I know not to many people play in HC, so it’s always good to hear their experiences, good or bad.

I guess that too, if you want to look at the silver lining. Honestly, I was just surprised that it took about a third of the time the second grinding for the Staff of Herding.

I’ll summarise your post right here:

TLDR: some will have a good experience and some won’t. Nothing more to be gleaned from it.

Darkness

For you? Maybe.

Do you have anything to add besides being a smartass?

Say… what’s your experience grinding for the Staff of Herding?

3 hours SC. Made for a nice distraction from grinding. I enjoyed the whole process.

There you go. Same as me. 3 hours. I guess that’s the good luck side of the grind. Others spending double that or more, either crafting the staff or still looking for that elusive gemstone or maybe even a different component, say the black mushroom.

Black mushroom popped on the very first run for me. Leorics shinbone about 20 runs. GG was only 6 runs, and rainbow was 8 runs. And the plans on 2 runs. All done on Normal except plans on T16.

For my two grinds, the only consistency was the plans dropping from Izual on the first try and buying Wirt’s Bell on the last game. The rest of the components were in a different order and I didn’t find 2 components in one game.

I did think about doing them in normal mode since I was in HC, but I thought I would try T16. I didn’t notice I was in T14 until I got the Gibbering Gemstone. I almost missed it too. I saw it on the ground as I was in mid TP.

And I would bet that this has happened to a lot of people who are saying that after x number of hours they still haven’t found it. I would guarantee that a lot of them are getting frustrated, not paying attention and not noticing Chiltara or the gem actually spawning.

Omg! It’s Unsane! :open_mouth:

I will have you know, I am also a fellow worshiper of the Altar of Rites extraordinaire in HC!!
Glad that you could join our fellowship!!

I dare say I had a similar experience, it was all relatively easy as well, except the acquisition of a Ramaladni Gift, the little bugger is so demanding. I had to rely on the employ of a subcontractor for that!

Do we have to get the plan in order for the other items to drop? As in plan first?

super lucky.

I am at 60 runs in SC for the gibbering, 0/17 on Chiltara. If this goes much longer, zero chance I will try on HC and my HC season will be done.

Nope. The plan is only to craft the staff eventually. Anything can be got in any order.

Yeah, I like to play both HC and SC. So far, I have been luckier in HC than SC. I’m not talking about when I game with a friend, nope. I am only counting my solo time.

I had a hard time getting that gift, almost 800 paras, in SC. Once I found one, I found 4 more soon after. I even got 2 from one GR. Crazy RNG is crazy. I had a feeling that would happen.

In HC, I found one early on, around the 400 paras. Then I was gifted many more from a friend. I have found only one other by myself, so 2 in SC, 5 if you count the ‘subcontractor.’

Yeah. I was VERY surprised how soon I got the staff made in HC. Now my fear is… I’ve used up all my luck on getting the Staff of Herding in HC that the rest of the grind will be a real ‘bleep.’

Did a few hours on normal, T7, T6, …etc mix it up. Eventually Gibber stone dropped after a few hours T1. Although I play Demon hunter, to hunt for the Gibber stone, I did make a monk so I could insta perma dash quick over the map looking if the frost cave spawned. Made it somewhat bearable. (Did not like the constant restarting required…at all. Find it very jarring and game immersive breaking)

Same. I got party locked for making too many games. I had to exit the game and restart the bnet launcher. Very annoying. That was in SC of course since I made over 50 games. I was party locked in the mid 20s.
