[soved]Are there undisclosed rules for lvling Legendary Gems?

A bit of explanation. Because I am (relatively) low Paragon (at least compared to some other plays on NS) and I play Solo on NS, I am testing leveling legendary gems with 1%.
I leveled 3 gems from 128 to 131 by doing relatively fast Greater Rifts. Took me few days, but I managed.

However, for some reason I don’t get 132. Now, this could be a bad RNG streak, or it could be, that I am not allowed to go more than 5 lvls higher than my highest clear (126 ATM).

Something else to mention in advance is, that some of the information on the internet is flat out wrong (which saddens me and goes to show, that there aren’t many people testing things). From what I’ve read, you can’t go past 10 lvls, which is simply not true. I got 131 by clearing 115.

So, has anyone else tested this and can you tell me, if there are some undisclosed rules in regards to lvling gems? Tnx in advance!

I’ve seen this one.
However, you’ve put an incorrect value.
I said I successfully got 131 with 1% by doing 115.
I was trying to get 132 with 116, so the interface does show 1% chance.

Point being, since I leveled a whole bunch of times with 1%, for some reason 132 got stuck, so I assumed possible, that you can use the 1% chance, but only lvl the gems 5 lvls above your highest clear.

However, I just cleared 127, so I guess when it comes to lvl 133 I’ll test it again.

You are a stronger person than I.

I know it’s a bit masochistic, but I just wanted to see how the whole lvling of gems plays out. Obviously to play in a group and benefit from seasonal theme is the path of least resistances, but that’s not what I’m going for right now.

To simplify it as much as possible, so that if someone has tested, he can let me know:

Since one can lvl up a gem by doing a Greater Rift, which is 16 level lower (again, I’ve reproduced lvling 3 gems from 130 to 131 by doing 115 GRs).

Would it be possible to lvl a gem to 150 by spamming GRs 134?
Or would you get stuck at 139 and you would have to clear 145 at least once in order to lvl to 150 by spamming 134?

Yes, the upgrade chance is based on the current level of your gem, not the level of the gem you’re upgrading it to. 1%s go up to 15 levels above the GR tier. Thus if you clear a GR 134 and have a 149 level gem, you have a 1% chance to upgrade it to 150.

Yes, I get that.
The question is, is there a limit on how far I can upgrade past my highest clear.
Do I need to solo 145 in order to be able to then lvl up to 150 with 134.

Because, like I said, while I successfully reproduced lvling multiple times, for some reason when spamming 116 I was not able to get 132 for many attempts. Again, it could be RNG, or it could be an undisclosed limitation.

That’s why I’m asking if there’s someone, who got lvl 150 gem without clearing… say 140 or higher.

You need to complete a 134 (solo or group) to get a 1% chance to level a gem from 149 to 150. Doing a 133 would give a 0% chance to level from 149 to 150. Though, a completed 135 would also give a 1% from 149 to 150 as well.

Part of the confusion is knowing what level your gem is currently at (not what it could potentially be leveled up to). A 116 would get a 1% chance at a 131 gem, to get to 132. But a 116 will have a 0% to get a gem from 132 to 133.

I used to do 1% chances long ago, but due to power creep, don’t need to (since I play in groups). I want to say I got my gems to 144 or so, back when my group was clearing 130-139.

Typically, I do the opposite for leveling low gems. Run GR 85s as fast as possible, up until the gem hits 76. Gems under 10 levels of the GR will be 100%.

GR 15 levels below the gem, will yield 1%.
GR 10 levels above the gem will yield 100%.

I know what I asked is a bit complicated and convoluted, but what you’re telling me is really not what I asked. I can read the interface, I can see when it shows 1% and when it shows 0%.
Allow me to try again.

I successfully upped 3 gems from 130 to 131 using lvl 115 GRs.
I did a whole bunch of 116 GRs, I tried to lvl from 131 to 132. Didn’t work, not a single time.

I speculated that, because my highest clear was 126, I might be limited to be able to only get 5 lvls past my highest clear (126+5=131). I raise my highest clear with 1 (as in I beat 127 when previously my highest was 126).
All of a sudden 116 works, I get 132 gem.

Could be merely a chance… you know, bad streak of RNG… or it could be, that you can’t lvl up gems 5 lvls than your highest clear (regardless of whether that clear is in solo/2/3/4 player mode)…
As in, unless your highest clear is within 5 lvls of the desired lvl gem, even though the interface displays 1%, the chance is actually 0.

I wondered if someone can confirm or deny that.

The upgrade chance displayed is correct. 1% is 1%, not 0.35% or anything that I am aware of. I have done this and have had 1% luck at a 15 GR difference chance before.

It does not factor in your highest cleared. I had gems in the 140s before my team successfully completed a 130 years ago.

Being that it is 1%, its really RING-intensive.

EDIT: I just checked some of my leaderboard rankings. In 2018-1 era, my team completed a 134 GR. On my solo Crusader, I completed a GR 114, but have equipped a level 144 trapped gem. The previous era shows a greater difference (team completed a 129, solo rank I have a 140 trapped gem).

Tnx, all I wanted to know!

Great!
I should add, I never actually tested if 1% chance is REALLY 1% chance. I just assumed it that way…
