Some classes have way too much gear to roll

I decided to run a Monk this season and was wondering why I am having so much trouble getting ancient legendaries. Turns out that Monks have 50 more items that can drop vs my normal DH. Wizards are pretty close to that many too. If you have a larger pool of gear than naturally it is harder to get useful ancients to drop for that class. May be time for Bizzard to cull a few items like all the unused spirit stones that monks have. Anybody else have some items (other than the obvious Duncraigs and Krems) that they would like to see culled?

All the legendaries with no legendary effect seems like a good first choice.

not really, for example the Witching hour has no leg affex, but is needed for my current WD build.
check the " Witch Doctor Helltooth Gargantuan Build" build on icy-veins
also part of the
“Witch Doctor Carnevil DoD Build with LoD”
(I have wasted so many blood shards and bottled souls on getting a good ancient Witching Hour)

i mean it’s more difficult, but there are way more options.

Ever see a DH in the last decade use anything but Yangs and Dawn? nope.

I don’t use Yang’s as much as I used to. Dawn is not used in the top clears this season. This season if you use the Multishot build you don’t use the dawn. If you use the Cluster Arrow build you don’t use the Yang’s. And in previous seasons since the GoD build has appeared, Yang’s and Dawn is only used for speed builds or farming. My biggest headache on the DH is rolling a good Hunter’s Wrath. Getting both Ancient and near 200 damage has eluded me.

Every Shadow DH player is looking at you and saying “I don’t exist Bro?” I know Shadow is not meta, but there are plenty of DH players that prefer the Ninja style of play. Also GoD builds don’t use Yang’s, so don’t dig in your heels unless you want another “Jesseth only” type thread.

And yet, I have all ancient (and some primals) on my Wizard… and I’m already done…

I’m not saying it is very difficult to gear when you concentrate on one class and build. It just so happens I feel that Wizards are also suffering from too much gear too. In my case I play both EU and NA servers. And this season I am gearing both my DH and Monks and just felt that the Monks are noticeably more difficult to gear due to 20% more gear that drops vs DHs. I feel that this might be an overlooked handicap for those classes. That is why I thought I should bring attention to it.

Yeah, I saw a Shadow/Impale DH with Karlei’s Point yesterday.

hey we all play meme builds once and a while.

Some of us just play builds we like, regardless of what the Flavour of the Month / META is.

Barbarians have it bad, as well, as they have two class-specific items (mighty belts and weapons) in addition to all the other gear available to everyone like daggers, swords, maces, and many armor (even shields.) I personally find it extremely hard and slow to itemize my barbarian. Eventually, a single good piece of gear (in my case, I got level 22 Bracers of Destruction) will drop and then you skyrocket up the difficulty… and then you hit a wall and stay there until the next useful item drops (I’ve had to craft every legendary I can to make use of LoD.) I know that sounds the same process for all classes but it just seems to take longer to gear a barbarian (and it does not help when you’re P2 on a console as the gear drops are almost half or worse, it seems)… which is why this time around, I have made it my secondary character so I can steal Kadala dollars from my main.

However, this may be an advantage as I am finally trying hardcore mode again. Slower is better.

In each of the following examples, I’m not using Dawn and Yang’s.
In fact, I’m not using Yang’s in any of them.

Seasonal Shadow/Impale. Karlei’s Point equipped. Dawn cubed. Yang’s not used.

Non-seasonal Marauder. Manticore equipped. Dawn cubed. Yang’s not used.

Non-seasonal Shadow/Impale. Karlei’s Point equipped. Dawn cubed. Yang’s not used.

Non-seasonal UE/Grenades. Fortress Ballista and Dawn equiped. Buriza cubed. Yang’s not used.

It might take longer to get Ancients in every slot on Monk, but it’s not anywhere as bad as getting all you want in D2.

If anything what needs to happen is making more Legendary items competitive.

Because you’re not rerolling them in the cube?

Finding an ancient is half of the battle for most builds as they only care for certainty. Some builds only want very specific roll of stats just to equip and use something. It can be cooldown reduction, increased attack speed, cuts to resource costs or it can be something very specific as healing from globes, life after kill or absolute damage ranges for further optimization.

By the odds and how large your character’s legendary pool is at that certain slot, harder it will be to find a proper ancient. Finding an ancient is easy as all it takes is a few reforges on the cube once you get enough mats. The problem is that can your build really utilize it fully? In short; any build will give you this certain vibe when you realize their depth.

“Some”? Can’t think of a single build that does not have that for every piece of gear. Sure, some are more forgiving than others, but all of them have a “checklist” of stats for every piece, and if the item differs to much from said list it’s junk. (Unless of course it’s a vital piece for said build where the legendary power alone makes it mandatory until you get one with proper stats)

Man you’re not kidding, Those are very hard to come by. And yet on my first try with Kadala you know the velied crystal vendor, I got an ancient hunters wrath.

Lol, of course I’ve been doing that… until I run out of Forgotten Souls. And even when I do roll an ancient that way they more often than not are useless. I find that I reserve the cube for gear that is being too stubborn to drop ancient at all. Seems that is 80% of the gear I need atm.

I agree with culling some dead legos, especially ones that don’t even have flavor text.

I think there is a better way to suggest it though. Sadly this’ll likely get dumped into the “random person complaining” category, and not looked at for what it should be…which is a valid suggestion to cull some of the fat from the loot pool.
