I have augmented two item with level 50+ legendary gems, however the season journey objective remains incomplete.
First I augmented my sanctified weapon with a level 70 legendary gem (Moratorium), when I saw that it did not count I augmented an ancient legendary ring with a level 52 legendary gem (Boyarsky’s Chip), which did not count either.
I’m not sure what else to do.

Try using a Whisper of Atonement that’s level 50 or greater. I used a level 100 WoA for augmentation on a sanctified quiver and completed the journey objective just fine.
I should not have to use a Whisper of Atonement to get this objective done, I have done it many times before, clearly not my first rodeo. I as a Hardcore player do not feel comfortable doing Echoing Nightmare, especially since I have never done it before. Going to try augment once more and then maybe considering Echoing Nightmare.

Yes… another augment is what I would try.
Not so sure about Echoing Nightmare… not only because you can lose your hero but also because there is no guaranty that a Whisper will work – it’s not very different than a legendary gem after all.
Have you finished all the objectives for the journey ? We’ve seen cases where the game client didn’t show that an objective was met, but the game server knows that it is. I’m just wondering whether this is similar. Completing another journey objective or all the journey objectives might be enough to unlock this.
Monday being a federal holiday in the US, the QA Team and developers may only show up on Tuesday. Thankfully, the Season is young so there is a lot of time to get this fixed.

I have completed every other objective for the season journey, yes. At the time of my original post I had once conquest left and I was really hoping that would trigger something, but sadly it did not…
I’m also thinking about doing the next augment on my crusader instead, not sure how or if at all that would theoretically make any difference, but it doesn’t hurt to try.
This is all very strange to me as I could not find any other posts about anyone else having the same issue with this objective.

Ok - thank you for confirming… perhaps it needed to be a cube-related objective, such as re-rolling a legendary with the Khulle’s recipe or extracting 40 legendary powers. Or perhaps I’m totally amiss
Not sure what else to suggest except to wait a bit and see if anything happens on the Journey. Trying a Caldesann on a different hero is a good idea or, if you feel like it, on a SC hero (which would mean leveling a hero up high enough to get a lvl 50 gem (or a Whisper) and an ancient item – you’ll get a guaranteed primal when you complete a tier 70 Greater Rift.
I’ve already completed my Journey on Asia and only have to level up 3 gems to 70 for Europe; I haven’t played my America barb yet… and I will certainly do a Caldesann with a gem, not a whisper to see what happens. If I get bold enough, I might try HC once more… I haven’t done a full season with a HC hero yet, so I might try that . I out-of-town most of the coming week however, so this won’t be quick.
Hang in there… perhaps someone from the QA Team will take an interest in this post.
If you still have not completed the Conqueror Chapter, could you post a screenshot of your Journey Window showing the Augment Objective not checked off?
I don’t think I’m going to put in extra effort on SC to test this, honestly this whole thing is already demotivating. I will still go through and level one or two more gems to try again, but after that I think the only thing I can do is wait. Maybe if I get desperate enough I’ll try on SC.
Hardcore isn’t that bad, you just have to be more careful and always prepared with an extra set of items! I hope you do give it another chance, I think it’s way more exciting ^^

It could also be useful in the future if someone runs in the same problem (I hope not – three augments to get the objective validated is a bit much… )
I did my Journey on Americas in HC but, I’m sorry to say, I couldn’t replicate the bug you encountered… I augmented a sanctified weapon just now with a level 50 gem and it worked as expected. Also, since that was the last Journey objective that I had left on Americas, I have now completed my Journey there as well.
In any case, I’m happy the bug did resolve itself for you when you did an augmentation on your alt.
