Solo Player Thread

For the first several season we did not have a theme, now that S23 will have something to make things more interesting for solo players, some of the group players are having a hissy fit.

As a solo player we do not receive the group xp buff, we do not get power leveled, we do not get free gear from others, we do not get to run free vault and cow levels when others open them, we do not leach off of others. Everything we accomplished we did on our own with no help.

So let me ask my fellow solo players how are you going to work with the new follower upgrades.

  1. Which follower do you think might be the best to run with.
  2. Will Asheara’s Vestments be something to consider?
  3. Do you think the new system will help with GRs, or is it just something fun to play around with.
  • It appears that skills will be based on the main stat of the follower, so we might need to create other toons so we can change out the stats.

  • I will run a Monk so if I get a wand with Dex, I will need to change that to Int for the follower.
The only way to do that will be to have an alt toon with Int ready just to change out the stat.

What really is messed up, is there is no reason to complain for group players.

If they really want followers in the multi-player game, all they have to do it have one of the z classes wear Asheara’s.

That set calls your followers to on attack occasionally with the potential of all three followers being in the game at the same time even in multi-player games.

It really is that simple. In fact, having z with Asheara’s might even be meta for next season.

  1. Scoundrel for HC.
  2. For groups.
  3. Yes it will help GR 100 and under. Minimal 100+. Who knows we need to test it.

Good thing there are choices now, if I need just a little bit more cooldown the enchantress seems OK. But I think the Scoundrel has the best update overal. And he is the least annoying also.
For the mainstat on the followers, I wonder if augmenting the items helps their mainstat…

Big update … I’ve been dreaming about it for a long time

I’m excited for the update. I’ve been ignoring the Scoundrel for all of these years because he sucked… The only time I’d touch him is to steal his starting bow when starting out with a new Demon Hunter. Now I want to see what his 20 yard cloud does.

I am looking to try all of the followers.

I’ll play the season just to see how the upgraded follower helps with the grind & then move to my non-seasonal.

Oh, and don’t forget - it looks like you can use the followers for stash space now. Very helpful for non-seasonal characters. 26 slots per per character that you have saved.

I will not run the PTR, but I will check it out tomorrow just to see the followers new configuration. :bow_and_arrow:

Wow you’re really trying to turn this into a “Us vs Them” thing aren’t you OP.

Do not come troll us to leave on another subject … thank you

Do most of the group players care about solo players, how many times have people been kick out of a group because they were not part of the “holy” meta. I mostly run solo, on a few occasions I was kicked out by the elitists because they did not like my build. So now I am about 75% solo and 25% group, now when I group up I have the season finished so I can HELP others who are just getting started.

It’s always been an “us vs them” thing. Whenever a solo player comes up with a suggestion to even things out between solo and group like dropping the number of bounties completed according to how many players are in the game.

Or giving followers more power, the comeback is…“Multiplayer should always be more rewarding and you get “Unity”, No Soup for You!”

Sorry but solo’ers didn’t start this fight. And now that they’ve finally got something, all the “group players” are complaining “What about us!”

It’s a little rich don’t you think?

Putting the Solo vs Group topic aside:

I’m just glad that they finally did something with the followers, and thus far it looks great. Now if they also upped our followers damage, and add some more crucial items to the Emanate system, the Diablo 3 followers would be amazing imo.

That’s another thing that I would like to see happen for Diablo 3.

All in all, this is a great start.

I think this is a great change especially for the play your own way folks, now ANY build is a farming build with a properly geared follower. I hope RoRG works on them even if not a shared power. Sages+Cain’s+Nems+Avarice+Broken Crown.

For solo speed GR I can see Enchantress being the pick for ability to equip 2 handers. Ahavarion+Gloves of Worship like some z-builds used.

I’d like to see Rechel’s and all of the Immunity amulets added to the shared effects.

The best update in a long time

Which 4 will you use? I am thinking #2, 4, 6, 7.

Scoundrel

  • Crippling Shot
    • Ranged attack that deals 140% weapon damage and slows enemies hit by 80% for 3 to 6 seconds based on the Scoundrel’s Dexterity.
  • Powered Shot
    • Ranged attack that explodes on impact, dealing 120% weapon damage as Arcane to enemies within 10 yards and has a 100% chance to Stun enemies for 3 to 6 seconds based on the Scoundrel’s Dexterity.
  • Hysteria
    • Whenever you or the Scoundrel land a Critical Hit, you both will go into hysterics, increasing all damage done by 3% for 3 to 6 seconds based on the Scoundrel’s Dexterity.
  • Anatomy
    • Increases Critical Hit Chance by 1.8% to 4% for you and the Scoundrel based on the Scoundrel’s Dexterity.
  • Multishot Passive
    • Passive: The Scoundrel’s special attacks have a 50% to 70% chance to fire 3 bolts based on the Scoundrel’s Dexterity.
  • ***** Skill Rework - Vanish
    • When you take fatal damage, the Scoundrel conceals you from enemies for 3 to 7 seconds based on the Scoundrel’s Dexterity and prevents your death.
  • *New Skill - Night’s Veil
    • The Scoundrel launches a cloud that covers a 20-yard area and lasts 5 to10 seconds based on the Scoundrel’s Dexterity. All attacks against enemies that are inside the cloud will be critical hits.
  • *New Skill - Piercing Shot
    • Ranged attack that pierces and increases damage done to enemies by 10% for 3 to 6 seconds based on the Scoundrel’s Dexterity.

All it will help with is a free cheat death, Nems and FoT for every solo push and a little CDR/AS/Damage buff.

They really need to expand the items in the Emanante list for it to offer build diversity or be useful.

The unknown of course is the damage they will do. We will find out tomorrow.

Bar Nems and FoT everything else is fluff and can be used for T16 farming etc but the one end game mechanic is GR’s and only Nems and FoT really help that.

Looking forward to giving the Scoundrel more playtime, which works well because I also prefer the dexterity classes.

Really glad for the update. Between a few farming and quality of life perks and the occasional cheat death, I can see it improving my enjoyment of the game quite a bit.

Right now, with the builds i have in mind i will stick with the enchantress. Cooldown is the main reason. And the + elemental damage is great too. I wish we could get some other utility pieces for the followers (appart from nems and fot), nothing op or crazy, just small contextual buffs than when combined can feel like we are having a proper support following us all the time.

Still going for my Enchantress for the CC. If follower damage is boosted significantly enough, the right items on her could really lend a helping hand in addition to the Emanate bonuses.

Honestly, probably not unless the devs change it so that the set makes all three followers accessible permanently when solo. But to be honest, that should be an option with or without a set bonus to trigger it since we are solo and they disappear once any other player appears in the game anyway. I mean, it’s four entitities in the game the same as if you were in a group, only they’re nowhere near as strong as a real group. Boost for solo, but still less than grouped.

Then they can change Azsheara’s to do something that buffs the followers themselves since it’s a follower-centric set.

Depends on what players come up with and whether or not Legacy of Dreams/Nightmares works on the followers as well. Being able to boost them to near player levels of strength might gain us a couple GRs at least. Anything is better than nothing, that’s for sure.

This has needed a change for years. CHD is capped at 150% for followers, leaving only mainstat, elemental damage modifiers, and CHC as the means of boosting their power. And with skills being based on weapon power, mainstat will be multiplying that just like it does on characters (in theory, at least). Being able to reroll to their mainstat should be an option. Otherwise, as someone that prefers the Enchantress when playing say, my demon hunter, getting that mainstat to ever appear on the items I want to equipon the follower will be next to impossible without creating more characters in seasons. I shouldn’t have to do that just to give my follower a stat appropriate item.

Although slightly incendiary, the OP does have a point that the players that prefer grouping have basically spat on solo players from day one and now they’re angry that we get a season theme designed around solo QoL improvements and not just group buffs. But that “discussion” can be had elsewhere. The meat of the OP is asking how we will use the new features and asks about issues with gearing the followers.

The nice thing for me is that because of Nemesis Bracers, Gloves of Worship, and Flavor of Time all being on the Emanate bonus list, that lets me run my Fire/Poison immunity build and still have the bonuses for farming both in GRs and non-GR content, while still allowing things like Wyrdward + Thunderfury for additional CC.
