Just thinking about a different challenge that the community can put together. My initial thoughts was for a preset level 1 toon with some mods.
I was considering the following:
Gem of Ease in any weapon.
Total of 3 Gem of Ease enchanted Armor pieces.
Paragon points in Movement Speed only.
No Cube powers.
Video of starting a fresh toon in adventure mode, and clocked to 70.
Personally, I’d be interested to see one of those famous runs:
0 paragon
0 gear, just what you loot
T1 at least
solo
(no cube - no reagents for it)
Basically, leveling your first character in the season, solo, at T6, all the way to 70.
I can’t imagine and I’d love to see how it goes.
People say it’s easy, nice and fast.
I couldn’t really see what gear u used while watching on mobile, would you please tell us what they were? I really wasn’t expecting an Offhand to be used during this… Does GoE work in an offhand socket? That is kind of neat!
My DH idea was Shadow Helm with Ruby, Shadow Gloves with AD and AttSpd, Death Watch Mantle, and a lvl 70 Crossbow.
Not socketed, the socket effect only works in weapons. And it’s unique-equipped, so for dual-wield classes you can’t dual-wield with two different weapons socketed with Gem of Ease. But you could make an offhand a level 1 by enchanting, the same you would other slot.
Are the only things allowed for this challenge what is listed? I powerlevel myself all the time, I usually craft low level Cain’s (+ruby + Leoric Crown in cube) and Born’s, plus run a Hellfire amulet (equippable at level 1 without a Gem of Ease, so you don’t have to burn a gem). Pain Enhancer or Toxin socketed in the Hellfire amulet is also nice for stringing big kill streaks.
Legacy of Dreams is also a good option for powerlevelling with an ancient weapon + Hellfire amulet. Gives a sizeable bonus even with just a couple ancients. Just precludes the use of low level Born’s + Cain’s, since the sets would negate the bonus.
Arguably, any L70 weapon with a high-level GoE in it would trivialize the challenge due to how much XP is being gained per kill, especially with any Torment bonus attached.
That said, at higher than about T2 surviving would be an issue without the 3 gear pieces, so it’s still a worthy effort.
I’m sure they do have it locked down, especially given how vicious the Lagbeast can be.
it’s definitely fun to do, though without the bonuses from the high-level gear I’ve never done it in under a few hours. Once I have my current characters basically set I plan to make a full set of leveling equipment to see how fast that can be.
I will probably use a monk, since I already have a primal daibo from the Inna set, but am on the fence about +%XP gear as I’m not sure it would measure up to a 100+ GoE.
I already had a bunch of level 70 gear that I removed the level requirements, so I picked among them for my build. It wasn’t optimized for this challenge.
From your requirements, I took it as using a max of four level-70 items: 1 weapon with GoE, and 3 other pieces. I interpreted “armor” to include any of the other slots, so jewelry and offhands would count. I also assumed that any items that dropped along the way could be equipped too, even though I never bothered to do so.
I ended up with 2 pieces of the UE set, mainly because I had them already. I would have gone with a Leoric’s Crown, but then I would have had to level another GoE and I wasn’t willing to do that. The combo of Yangs and DML provides a lot of damage via MS.
I also used a hellfire amulet and ring, since technically those are level 1 items. You never mentioned gems, and since those are also level 1 items, I took it to mean that those were allowed. I used a BotT and Zei’s.
The biggest difference would be the level of GoE you used in the weapon. The higher the rank, the faster you can level up. You never set a limit on rank. I have mine at 108. I’m sure those that leveled it up to 150 or so could level up even faster.
Gotcha. I forgot that GoE had benefit above lvl 25.
Pickups along the way was envisioned, but the lvl 70 offhand with base damage was not expected.
This post was about setting up the challenge criteria, not the actual challenge itself. That was why I asked for the Theorycraft, as the rules needed to be discussed beyond just what I came up with.
Thank you for contributing! Your video was fun to watch!
I think the ideal combo would be Yang, DML, Leoric Crown with ruby, and Leoric signet.
You can then equip hellfire ring and amulet, allowing for 3 legendary gems. You would be squishy, but I guess a defensive gem would help that. Combine with BotT and Zei’s for max damage.
Add a max level GoE in the weapon and you could probably level to 70 in under 5 minutes.
Hmm, I might have to try that. Time to level up some more GoEs.
You might consider LoD for that setup too. If you don’t have any set bonuses you are leveraging, a six ancient LoD is a pretty sizable damage bonus (4500%). Seems kinda cheesy though.
If you were really worried about toughness, you could always swap Leoric’s to Elusive Ring too. Sacrifice a little XP for a lot of toughness. Or just make sure your Yang’s and DML both have vit. 1800-2000 vit goes a long way at lower levels.
I didn’t figure on the lvl 1 hellfire, but that’s the fun of this. Elusive could swap later if dropped, but would break the weapon/3 armor rule.
LoD 6pc might be more fun as a rule however. Both hellfires, 3 armor pieces (no offhand), and the weapon. Using LoD(99max) would also set a natural limit on the gems, like if LoD was set at max 50, no other Gem could be higher.
I could see a crazy setup with the Red Soul Shard with Lod and Mirinae being a fun “stealth” type gameplay for any class in a challenge like this.
I actually have a full 13-piece “suit” of gear in my non-seasonal stash for levelling up heroes to 70 quickly. I used to go with all the sets that granted +XP bonuses but then changed to all non-set pieces, with a rank 99 LoD. As all 13 pieces are ancients or primals, I get the full 9750% damage bonus from level 1. I used this on a Barb when I wanted a fresh one for H90/Frenzy. I started her at level 1 in T6 and was level 70 in 6.5 minutes. (All of the gear is level 70 stuff with the level requirement having been removed using the cube recipe involving a Gem of Ease). So, whilst that’s under the 10 minutes of the challenge, it doesn’t meet the gear requirements, but the idea of the LoD giving you 9750% damage and doing it at T6 rather than T1 with lots of +XP gear is valid.
Thanks for your input! I figured ppl had done this before, but to have a race type challenge by restricting gear slots seems that it could be super fun.
Maybe we do a GR challenge after using only a starter weapon…
