What build can best use Cain’s and still farm Keys efficiently? Tried a zunimassa varient with Cain’s and Sage and it wasn’t very good tbqh.
cain’s is useful for the xp bonus from clvl 20 to 30 when leveling to 70, other than that, it’s worthless.
Cain’s can be used by all classes combined with a 6p set except the Necro.
You need to use the sets that don’t take up the normal 6 items slots.
Monk - Inna or SWK sets
WD - Zunimasa set
Sader - Akkahn set
Wiz - Tal Rasha set
Barb - IK
DH - Natalya
Now, while its possible to equip these sets along with Cain’s and a RoRG. Most are going to struggle in t16 unless you have extremely high paragon.
The only ones I can personally vouch for are the Monk’s SWK set, and the Sader’s Akkhan set.
Both can still be very effective in t16 using any of the craftable off-sets, even without a ton of paragon.
Still… Cain’s updated set is very usefull at the start of a season. It NEEDS to have a belt added to the mix.
Not sure if console still has the old version, but Cain’s was updated to give us extra GR keys on RG kills semi-recently.

I believe OP and jay were referring to the level 70 Cain’s rather than the level 23 set.
It’s more about what you got really (what classes you have, I mean). I went for IK barb as it was the class I had early on (both in US and Asia). Seasonal theme allows you to cube both Gavel and Remorseless, which takes care of the damage problem, and Esoteric, Molten, Unity(or Aquila) takes care of slightly subpar defence problem.
Both your wiz and WD should work. Tal wiz with something like EB would work better, but as it seems your wiz is still in progress, WD is your only choice. Don’t forget that you only need to be wearing Cain set when you’re killing RG. Any progress before that you can simply use your normal build.
I’m still wondering. Is Haunt really the best mana spender when speed farming? Question arose because it seems other sites also listed it as mana spender to activate zuni damage bonus.
i think you hit the nail on the head, wearing Cane’s is pointless until the Rift guardian and swapping gear when it spawns would be ideal.
i was testing various mana spenders and keep ending up on Haunt: resentful and lingering spirits(extremely good for lazy speeds and it’s autofire mechanic) as the best options. Manitou works well, but without Gazing Demise it’s slow and also the range is short so you have to get close. I was hopeful for Acid rain, but it’s a mana hog and because of that not feasible, otherwise it’d work best because of it’s screen coverage. I think an amazing option is Piranhados if you run something like In-Geom and grave injustice so it’s always off cooldown. Probably the best option for speeds.
Also note: Zuni bonus only lasts 6 seconds after the spender hits the target. Dots are not an exception and dont refresh that bonus even though they are still active on the target. Also, Wormwood locusts do not activate the Zuni bonus. I believe Piranha is the only “dot” that does refresh the Zuni bonus and as long as you can see the animation of piranha on the target you get the Zuni bonus.
I farm with Sage also for extra DB (you may noticed I made a typo of saying Sage instead of Cain. I edited now).
I was thinking Grasp of the Dead and its offhand (spamming the living crap out of it with rune), but as I never tried it, I don’t know how practical it is. But I can see Piranhado working well.
Grasp of the Dead spends too much mana and is a very small radius. Plus taking up an item slot to remove the cooldown, i just lost any hope of using it. If you choose the rune to remove the mana cost it doesnt work with Zunimassa, and the rune Rain of Corpses is slow and one at a time. When Acid Cloud has no cooldown and the same mana cost with a 24 yard radius, GotD just isnt an option.
Want to mention that Bats are a decent option with the wrists and staff. It’s just too costly for me with item slots.
Somebody did the math last season and it concluded that any regular speed build would net more keystones than a Cain’s build. The only use would be to run as support to another character, or straight up if you are getting a boost.
If I recall correctly it had to be doubled to tie with a speed build, I believe.
Only 25% chance to drop an extra one. Definitely not worth clogging up all those slots with this trash.
there are also 2 versions, the old one (when gear level was capped at 60, and that cain’s set unlocks at 21 or 23 can’t remember, get it confused with born’s, same levelish)

Not exactly true. Each drop of a GR key is a 25% chance to drop a 2nd key. It is possible to get 8 keys in a T16 rift. Last season I farmed keys with a SWK WoL monk and kept 2 pieces of Cain’s in my stash to swap on when the RG spawned. I would regularly get 5 to 6 keys for each rift.
Sunwuko WoL and swap out Cains at the RG. Best key farmer in the game.
I’m finding this to be accurate. Going to try out s20 Akkahn set variations to see how it compares.
There is no comparison. No build clears the screen better or is faster than WoL. Infinite Dash + blowing up the screen in 1 hit >>>> any crusader build.

For the simple fact that as a benchmark example, to get 13x Ancient pieces of gear to 100 for imbuing, anyone requires 260 keystones minimum (assuming they do not die once).
While the chance of extras dropping is improved at 25%, 50% would be better at removing the grind / hamster-on-a-wheel aspect of perpetuity.
