So what's the point of infinite Paragon? Help!

I’m genuinely lost on this and looking for someone to show me the ropes. I’m a returning player and dipped out of D3 back in season 4. At the time, paragon over 800 was generally considered high, and 1000 was reserved frequently for botters.

I decided to play through the campaign again after the announcement of D4 since I hadn’t leveled a Necromancer yet. After hitting 70, I decided to dip back into the end-game.

Now 10,000 is target for non-season… I don’t get it. Why? That’s such an ungodly high number (pun intended). My paragon is over 660 after moderate grinding prior to my hiatus, am I supposed to grind for the rest of my life on something that’s endless, and more importantly, pointless? Farm rifts and greater rifts, acquiring useless “legendary” and set gear that is entirely irrelevant unless it has the perfect stats so I can be promoted to the next T level to continue farming useless gear until I find that next perfect piece?

There’s no sense of accomplishment or progression.

Are there some sort of cosmetic rewards or difficulty-level-locked loot for high paragon or T levels? My understanding is that aside from perfect stats, the only rewards are for seasonal, is that right?

I can’t help but feel that prior to D4, this game needs genuinely new content, or at the very least a paragon cap to set some sort of realistic goal. I hate to add to the cacophony of “Diablo 2 did it best,” but it did do the best in terms of character leveling experience and progression.

It is just a (possible) way to create more power or some kind of goal you want to reach. Maybe this form of Paragon is not perfect. But i have never the feeling that my time is totaly wasted if i dont reach some other goals. Just my 2 Cent.

I have struggled with this exact same thing too. Farm so you can farm better, so you can farm your farm better. It’s like an awful Xzibit meme.

I think what happened is RoS over-compensated for the terrible “And then we doubled it” shenanigans plagued by the original game. The AH was supposed to be the original games monetization plan, but it backfired. So now we only got one expansion and a necro class, and then game went into maintenance mode. They just keep buffing damage numbers, which adds to the power creep. Except for Barbarians, they, for some reason, keep getting crapped on in regards to damage.

Diablo 3 is now handled by the classics games team, which means there will likely not be anymore major content released.

There will be balance updates, and new seasons, and that’s pretty much it. I think we are getting a new set for each class.

So to answer your question, yes, you are supposed to spend the rest of your life farming paragons :stuck_out_tongue:

Hopefully Diablo 4 makes some changes for end-game content to keep players playing for a long time. I do know they will have a mtx shop, where they will not sell power (confirmed at Blizzcon), so that should help funding the release of content.

They already talk about a huge open world with public events/bosses, and hundreds of different dungeons with different affixes, something similar to PoE maps I think.

Paragon exists because the game’s itemization is super shallow and you end up in situations where you can’t replace any items except with better versions of the same item so the only “progression” is Paragon. It’s pathetic but that’s just “Diablo” 3…
