I was watching a gr 150 4 player run with a two Barb set up on Youtube. I watch these videos to learn how to better myself in the game. I noticed 3 skills (Ignore Pain, Warcry, and Shout) on the youtuber’s bar being hit every second with no variation in timing. I assume he’s using a macro. Which I thought was against your rules? If it’s not against the rules which program is usable?
He probably just numlocked them so they activated when they were off cooldown. Same as if you put a weight on the key.
Ahh ok so that’s not against the ToS? Thanks!
The numlock trick is a bit grey area but generally accepted since it utilizes ingame mechanics. No third party applications or anything similar is required, only a standard keyboard with a numpad.
Macros fall in the third party applications category which makes them strickly prohibited.
It is since one keystroke has to translate in one action.
In the case you described one keystroke translated in 3 simultaneous actions. So, this is against the rules and you may get banned for using it.
I hope they’ll share more on the cheating issues in the upcoming D3 blog post next week.
Where does it say numlock is not allowed?
I couldn’t find any post in forums, and it’s a practice known for Necros.
Can you bind numlock to 3 skills?
Might not work for all skills, but I was able to test this with 2 skills of WD:
Numlock’s Souls Harvest & Spirit Walk.
You bind numlock to these two and when you press it they are cast simultaneous?
Sorry, I haven’t played D3 since a long time and I don’t remember what the numlock stuff was exactly.
On theory such interaction: 1 keypress - multiple triggers
is against the rules.
And it should not matter how it’s achieved - numlock or AHK.
On theory? Yeah. But if no one said it’s not allowed, when everyone uses it?
I don’t know.
Usually I don’t even have a numlock (My mechanical keyboard is without a numpad).
Anyway, I searched for ‘numpad’ and found no blue or green post about it.
I think they said exactly this - one keystroke one action is allowed. More is not.
Yes, everyone uses deck trackers in HS too, but they are pretty much an allowed cheat. I am probably the only top 200 player there without one.
But then, they do allow some HUDs, and not others… So they dry rules are stricting, but there are edge case.
As mentioned above - it’s considered grey area and generally allowed instead of forcing you to constantly spam your keys (Relevant for necro).
I’m not doing it myself, but would sure love an authority to dictate the tone here.
Yes, it’s all one big mess. They speak for fair competition etc and at the same time avoid addressing such issues in more appropriate way…

Well, in this case the OS is the third party program. The numlock trick doesn’t work on macs. So it’s not a standard in game mechanic.
Yes. It’s the same as having your fingers on 3 keys pushing them down constantly.
Then theoretically it’s against the rules.
I get it now, folks are fixing to get banned for THUD and botting and so now those folks want legit players banned for using the Numlock trick. Frickin’ trolls!
The numlock trick isn’t illegal. It’s still one press one action whether you bind it one key or all four.
It’s the same as using a toothpick or tape to hold down the button. You’ve got no control over when the skill will go off other than the fact that it will as soon as it comes off cooldown.
You don’t download anything. You can’t go afk and run a rift with it or anything like that.
So please stop being obtuse and just realize that anybody that uses THUD deserves to be banned. Quit with the false equivalency.
edit: changed a “can” to a “can’t”
Yeah, casting four skills same as one, sure. Go buy a lottery ticket and bind it to numlock too.
It’s not casting four skills with one press. It’s casting four skills with four presses. Get your facts straight.
That’s why I asked someone explain what it does. Seems like no one can.
