So, about these conquests

It’s very annoying that I can’t finish the season without trying to find “The Cursed Peat” on my SSF character like 1 million times. How about making all of the cursed chests more relevant to completing this conquest? The idea that remaking the game repeatedly is somehow an extraordinary accomplishment is just silly.

Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but… can’t you just make a hardcore SSF character and get one of those other conquests to total three combined across all modes? Or are they counted completely separately?

I agree that one, the story mode one, and the set dungeon one are all butts. But I could have sworn you could cheese it just by making a hardcore character in addition to a regular one…

You are not wrong.

For example these two Conquests:

Count as two Conquests completed towards your Season Journey.

The chest can be on the map even if the specific bounty doesn’t appear. But not if there is another bounty on the map according to sources.

First, as Jazz stated before me, Cursed Peat is independent from the bounty event. You don’t have to reset the game just to land the guaranteed bounty spawn. When you don’t see any special bounty event in the area, you can give Path of the Drowned a visit and check if Cursed Peat is there.
As I remember, I think Perusoe did a good outlook for this and listed six events with large tile assets, where you have to reset when you see any of them, again some independent from the bounty. Between them, there are; the wide alcove where you have to help Lurk, Pillar of the Faithless, Wicked Man, Lord of the Hill and I think one more. When you see any of those listed, get back to town and reset the game.

As for the challenge itself there are two other Cursed Chest candidates for you to consider taking on when you kept failing on Cursed Peat or humbled by randomization of the event spawn.
There are two Cursed Chest events, namely Cursed Bellows in Act 1 Halls of Agony Level 3 and Cursed Spire in Act 2 Unknown Depths, reached from Terminus, take a turn ahead from Zoltun Kulle’s Waypoint. Aside from that there’s also Cursed Pit in Act 2 Storm Halls across Unknown Depths, can’t remember if it would be any better so putting it out there.

While it could be a waste of time, I doubt it hurts to check Act 1 and Act 5 both while you are at it when frustrated with it enough to mettle it. This Conquest also checks your mobility and reach so be sure that you have it covered. The idea is losing significant damage output to gain more sustain, that is enough to score 350 in one go. So consider some crucial items like Messerschmidt’s or Obsidian Ring of the Zodiac when heading to either of these.

Still, Cursed Peat is the best chance you will get it done.
I did it on Nova Necro (with Brigg’s Wrath ring), this season, BTW, 364 kills - was positively surprised I didn’t have to roll another toon to get this done.
Some of the other mentioned chests, when randomly running into them (on TXVI), I usually get to 300+ kills, so going down to TX would most likely be enough, I guess.

If any one of these Events appear in Act V, then The Cursed Peat  will not spawn:

  1. Treason’s Final Reward (a.k.a. Pillar of the Faithless)
  2. The Burning Man
  3. The Lord of the Hill
  4. Lord of Fools
  5. The Cursed Camper, Lurk (Not sure what this is really called. And it does not spawn as a Bounty).

It’s kind of like in Act III, when Icefall Caves is present, then Caverns of Frost won’t spawn. Only one or the other will appear.

Note: If any other Bounty than those listed above spawn in Act V, there is still a chance you can find The Cursed Peat. For example, The Perilous Cave  and The Cursed Peat  can spawn at the same time.

Edit

The image below shows two things.

  1. The area where you’ll find Lurk, if he spawns.
  2. That these Events do not always spawn near the Paths of the Drowned Waypoint.

For some reason this season I only did the Journey up to the Six Piece. I enjoy the Altar of Rites though.

This. That’s how I got mine. All you have to do is make a circle with your character around the waypoint and if it spawned you’ll see it right away.

One of the many examples of very lazy design put into this game. If they are going to put a conquest in the game, it should be doable for most if not all of chests.

While there are a couple others that are doable, Cursed Peat is by far and away the easiest, especially for a solo player.

As for hunting for Bellows, I always have an easier time finding Peat than Bellows.

The map is huge. It can also appear farther away from the WP.

I guess I disagree here. Conquests should be difficult, and I personally don’t mind if there are only a limited amount of chests which can accomplish this. That said, the type of puzzle that requires finding the correct chest only really works the first time, and it would have been nice if there were far more conquests than there are today.

While you are correct, it would typically take you longer than just a quick circle around the waypoint. I’d guess I average finding Cursed Peat within 30 minutes just doing the quick circle approach. (And that’s also why this conquest is not nearly as fast as it appears to be on the surface.)

If I don’t get The Cursed Peat  as a Bounty, I’ll search for it. I first check the perimeter around the Paths of the Drowned Waypoint. If I don’t find it, I may begin to circle the border of the map.

Here is one time I found it far from the Waypoint:

That’s true, but if it’s further out than a reasonable size circle around the waypoint, it’s not worth the time. Also, if you see another event that has spawned just leave. It’s not 100% full proof, but it speeds up the search.

Never said it shouldn’t be difficult. I simply think the challenge to a Conquest should be can you do the task and not how many times you can load the game to get the right map.

Ya, I really can’t do the reload, check, reload, check, reload, check …. infinity thing anymore. The quick search is most likely more efficient, but I value my mental health more.

I usually run a UE DH. By quick searching the whole map, I kill everything, which also nets me Vision portals and dbs. Something I desperately need early in the season. Breaks up the monotony of doing each task individually.

I found it twice the first night (337, 349 kills), found it zero times the next day & got so tired of looking I made a hardcore SSF character this morning to get a third conquest that way. It might take me a day or two because it was literally beginning from zero on everything except season journey progress, and D4 is about to kick off. Cheers, all!

The two most reliable cursed chests for this conquest are The Cursed Peat (optimal and the easier of the two), and also The Cursed Bellows, found in Halls of Agony LV 3 in Act 1. Peat can be done by the most classes while Bellows requires a significantly sized AoE to work with since you have to AoE two sides if you’re in the middle or you have to have a wide arcing AoE if standing in the lower left corner of the chest area.

This one, believe it or not, can be far easier for some players to do in hardcore than the GR 75 solo one, making it a prime candidate for a hardcore switchoff to get these conquests done.

I don’t want to advance any weird theories, but it is almost AS IF someone out there heard my pleas. I found it twice in 3 attempts today bc SSF Hardcore wasn’t doing me any favors. The second run I cleared it with 367 kills on my main. I had the wrong gear on first run & failed miserably at like 227.

The cursed peat uses the same tile. So you need to walk to see what was spawned chest or event.

literally not even close to the only place to easily do this achievement.

Not the only place, but far and away the easiest, especially solo.
