It works so well for the impale build because of the Shadow Power skill and one of the runes. So it will also work for other builds using Shadow power. As far as I know you have to press the Shadow power skill one time after drinking a potion (it has to be within the first five seconds). The snapshotting effect has to be renewed after changing floor/level and after death (but you play HC).
There may be other snapshot effects for other builds/classes/potions.
