The Maint is for Bnet impacting all the games and also Shop services. Not sure what they are up to and it is Monday instead of the usual Tuesday.
OH - and if you get DCed from a Blizz game with a note that your “Account Details have changed”. Don’t panic.
They are doing database work right now and there are some instances where it is accidentally popping a flag and frightening people. The CS forum has several threads on it and CS did check into it. I assume that database work is related to whatever they are prepping for Monday.

It baffles me in this technological world we live in that service needs to be interrupted to perform maintenance. To be honest i dont think blizzard cares about the player and that’s the reason why they havent found a solution yet. We’re just “payers” to them after all.
Running a maintenance on a live database often tends to end…badly. The databases Blizzard uses aren’t tiny Excel spreadsheet type affairs, they’re monolithic monstrosities. In general, you don’t want do perform a deep maintenance on files that are in use and prone to corruption quite easily.
Since it’s a six hour maintenance it is possible this is a preamble to the preparations for integrating D2R fully into the Battle.net infrastructure since the last two BTRs were isolated systems that merely accessed the minimum infrastructure for functionality purposes. We’re getting the notofication ahead of time, so we can plan around it. And this is better than the hour long live maintenances Blizzard used to do daily in the first two years of World of Warcraft. That was…well, if you liked NPCs and the AH taking five minutes to acknowledge input from you I guess you could call it “fun”.

Imagine how baffled you’re going to be when you realise that as an up-time SLA rises from 99% upwards they become exponentially more expensive and almost no hosting company will offer 100% up-time.
A 99% up-time still allows for over 7 hours a month of scheduled down-time…
