I can’t believe it is finally happening! This may be the greatest update since they removed the GR key stage:
Still doesn’t equalize the Paragon boost from 4 player or getting rank 150 LG’s in groups that are then used in solo clears.
Those are the real issues with solo, not a follower revamp.
The Follower update gives us more diversity as I don’t need to wear Nems/FoT etc but group players can rinse GR150’s anyway without followers thus having this in just solo will not do much for the meta.
Well, we went from nothing to SOMETHING. People have been begging for follower upgrades for YEARS AND YEARS. I can’t believe it finally happen.
I don’t expect Solo to ever be as powerful as group play but at least the gap should get smaller with this and more importantly it should be a lot more fun at least that is the hope.
Big clap for nerfing the GoD set without buffing anything else for it (bolas, grenade’s) etc.
Follower stuff looks cool interesting to see how it actually turns out or if all of a sudden followers are doing T16 for people then boom another nerf hammer.
Can the DH get some darned bracers or something to boost Impale to true RGK competence? Nope let’s just give the ugliest most pale class in the game another new piece. (I really feel that way if a necro comes into my game with the male avatar I leave I don’t want that ugly, decrepit handed, scary movie knockoff of an avatar on my screen.)
I’m looking forward to taking a closer look at some of the detail here and mindful there may be more to come if reactions suggest it’s an area worth developing further.
There’s quite a few areas I can envisage change would bring further balance to the solo v group equation, including areas Homerjnick fairly points out above.
I think it’s good to see the changes being well received.
They nerfed GoD because of unintended mechanic. In their eyes, it’s not even a nerf, they’re just patching broken mechanic of using dampener elite to burn other elites.
The new follower changes will be a nice change to solo play. I think they will be more effective to solo play than you may think. Just the scoundrel alone with his cloud that makes all hits critical hits is very significant.
Running cains on follower means less time farming keys, more time running grs.
The extta cheat death from all three followers…
Not convinced on the Scoundrel’s 20 yard cloud…how will it spawn? How often? How long will it last? The fact you do not stand in it but need the enemies in it makes it harder to use although grouping up skills like Cyclone Strike become interesting.
I see it as a RG killer for solo though but the above questions still remain…I’ll be testing on PTR on Thursday for sure.
EDIT Ok based on maintstat can last 10 seconds.
Filters by set is an interesting one…
Much of the concerns around build balancing loses a degree of relevance with this. Not entirely… but it’s not just about finding and squeezing the most out of the most powerful build now. More scope for people to play what they like and compete alongside others doing the same. Have read quite a bit of feedback around that, including in forums we can’t post in from here.
I think filters by paragon and gem level would add to what this is trying to achieve.
I don’t expect the Leaderboards filter to come to Console…I suspect they are the online Battle.net Leaderboards for PC integrated into the PC version and available on the website.
But aren’t the console leaderboard data kept on the Blizzard server as well? If so, I think they should be able to implement the filters for the consoles too.
Nope, on the Console platform servers like PSN/XBLIVE etc…Blizzard have no Console servers.
Even if they did I still seriously doubt they would spend dev time on introducing the filters but I hope I am wrong.
That would be a bit of a snag. I can think of another thread that might become relevant in if that’s how it goes live… time will tell.
I suppose PTR is wholly PC, so we may not seeing anything on that till live.
I hope Blizz is following this.
It’s good to see someone else applaud the nerfing of god. This should flatten the DH LBs and encourage people to play more DH builds on the LBs. I mean, at the moment, why would you play anything else other than god build? it’s 15 GRs + more stronger than any other DH build, can speed farm and push GRs equally good, has exceptionally fast mobility and is popular within group play, crikey, even being an alternative to rat farming.
Blizzard could have buffed all other DH builds to match god build, resulting in more power creep (no thank you!), or nerfed the singular build that was OP AF, resulting in better game balanced. Those players whining about the god nerfing are just being selfish.
Exactly. But, they won’t. They’ll blame Sony/Microsoft, and Sony/Microsoft will blame Blizzard, and in the end, consumers will get shafted by all involved.
That is not true Nick. Sony have confirmed that Blizzard has, and maintains, its own LB servers on the PSN platform at least. I expect XBOX to be no different.
As I understand it Dave the devs of any game can rent Sony servers and put their game bits on them. Well that is how it is for the games I’ve beta tested for that have online play as I’m a private beta test for a UK developer.
Dedicated online games may have their own servers and run the PSN network on them but that requires a bit more infrastructure to do that and I think with D3 on Consoles given how light it must use servers (99% PSN 1% Season start and Leaderboards and nothing else game related) I think Blizzard most likely rent the Console servers?
Either way they have administrative capabilities ie as you say maintain servers but they may not be Blizzard servers but they just rent Sony servers. Whether they rent or run the servers themselves is irrelevant as we both know they have administrative capability so can make leaderboard changes…I’m just not fully convinced we will get them because it would require dedicated Console development time given the Leaderboards on PC function wildly different to Console.
If they do incorporate these Leaderboard changes into Console then they better be prepared for the posts that they they also add in the very important QoL stuff we Console players want given they will have shown they can spend dev time on Console.
Except now no one will play god except for support/bounties/keys. They took the most versatile set we had and gutted the pushing version of it without making the numerous other versions viable. They didn’t buff any of the other sets along with the nerf so it’s just lame.
If I had to choose that they did all this work to revamp the follower( which let’s get real they just gave us a bunch of utility cube slots, nems , FoT so now hellfire is back?) or choose they they provided a much larger balance and focus on nerfs/buffs I would choose the latter first all day.
End of the day we get the same solo builds minus a damage cube slot but hey now everyone has a free flavor of time and nemesis for their push. Time to dust off those Lacuni prowlers boys and get your uber farm gear ready bleh. (Ubers would be fun if you didn’t have to reload the lobby but could close the portals)
Just wanted to ask about the actual 2.7.0 PTR…never have been or tried to get into the Testing part…but this is only for PC Players correct? I looked at the official release notes and all and shows how to particiapate but sounds like PC only…
Yeah ptr is pc only 20 chars
Battlenet DOES work for PlayStation but only for Overwatch. It will also be used for D2 and whenever d4 comes out.
It is not part of D3
Yes, I understand this. But - it was the only DH build that people were playing…that is not game balance, and it is not promoting build diversity, is it? It demonstrates and underlying issue with the game design.
