Simple math guide for testing + examples

I can’t find the post anymore that recommended to watch sVr’s “crushing numbers” twitch video, but i came to a conclusion that many people still don’t know how some things need to be considered when theorycrafting, espacially when they work with percentages.

50% more = 1.5 multiplier

100% more = 2.0 multiplier

50% x 50% more (Focus und Restraint) = 1.5 x 1.5 = 2.25 multiplier

250% more = 3.5 multiplier

Jesus Christ! Don’t know who was it, that said:
If you really wanna see a good theory craft, watch this video, no guessing, just math!..or something like this. :joy:
I don’t know if he came to that conclusion himself, but it is really funny that a even “pro player” can’t figur it out. I won’t watch the full video of it, even if i was interested in it. Sorry!

500% more = 6.0 multiplier

900% more = 10.0 multiplier

1000% more = 11.0 multiplier

1900% more = 20.0 multiplier

2000% more = 21.0 multiplier

DH UE Set:
86 max discipline x 350% dmg increase per discipline
= 30.100% more = 302.0 multiplier

LON/LOD:
750% x 13 ancients = 9750% more = 98.5 multiplier

DH Natalya:
14.100% more = 142.0 multiplier

Crusader Akkhan:
1500% more = 16.0 multiplier :joy:

Possible LON-Wizzard Meteor Calculation for NON-Archon

Nilfur Boots = 600% = 7.0x
The Grand Vizier = 400% = 5.0x
Deathwish = 325% = 4.25x
Etched Sigil = 150% = 2.5x

Class internal damage multiplier for Meteor (base dmg, no rune, no nilfurs 2nd)

7x5x4.25x2.5 = 371,875 multiplier

This is the damage multiplier for meteor, without calculating Nilfurs 2nd bonus or Starpact

When play with a LoN set, the base meteor damage is increased by:

98.5 x 371,875 = 36.629,6875 or rounded, 36,6k

In this Calculation:

No Archon
No Mantle of Channeling
No Starpact
No NIlfurs 2nd

(Only permanent and situation independent bonuses considered)
Just to give you guys a tiny guide on how to get in touch when calculatiing!

Witchdcotor Acid Cloud with LON

LON Set, 13 ancients = 9750% = 98.5

SuWong Diviner = 100% skill damage ( no leg power, ergo, a clean multiplier)
(for ez math i will treat this bonus as a 2.0 multiplier)

Possible Grin Reaper playstyle not considered due to situational impact

So…98,5.0 x 2.0 = 197.0 multiplier for this Skill

0.197k vs 36.6k

Base meteor damage is [[ 186 times ]] higher thanbase Acid Cloud damage.

Acid Cloud would need items that:

Increase the damage by 800% = 9.0
Increase the damage by 300% = 4.0
Increase the damage by 400% = 5.0

Because is 10x4x5 = 180 is roughly 186

THIS is calculated without Archon, without Starpact, without Mantle of Channeling.
THIS is the sad truth we face in this game!!!

Why the WD’s want Acid Cloud & Zombie Charger to be in this Set:

Helltooth has no clear intention anymore, too much skills, also cross-tuned with other sets and no legendary items or build-defining tools.

New “mana/sec set for the WD on PTR”

Would increase the damage by 50.000% if we have a regeneraion of 1000 mana/sec.

With 1000 mana/sec the 6pc bonus would give us a 1000x50 = 50.000% damage increase or a 501.0 damage multiplier

If we would give the SuWong Diviner a 900% damage increase to Acid Cloud, or a 10.0 damage multiplier, this skill would be increased by:

501 x 10 = 5010 times, or rounded, by 5000, 5k.

The difference between LON Acid Cloud and “NEW Set Acid Cloud” would be:

0,197k vs 5k multiplier to this skill.

Base Meteor damage would only be roughly 7x higher than Acid Cloud with the new set and not 180x higher.

With implementing Acid Cloud +Zombie Charger to the new set, two of the main class-defining skills would be immensly buffed, WITHOUT being too op or even close to something else in the very top tier section.
With such a change Blizzard would then only need to add one item for each, or a combo item like a blet, that increases both’s damage and we would be fine.
Even though, this single item is not important for now, the addition to the new set would be more than enough…for now.

Post got too long, but just wanted to give you a clear view on the current situation and how things are calculated in the end.
Not 100% precisely, but fair enough to make “correct” statements.

The fix for Bazooka is a joke when you see the numbers above…without starpact in calculation, without Archon in calculation.

Rethink you way to balance stuff Blizzard! :ok_hand:
