Should D4 Have a online character profile like path of exile

For those who don’t know

Poe has an online profile for your account where you can see:

  • your characters

  • theirs stats

  • their level

  • achievements

  • gear

  • skills

  • progression

  • can be set to private

This allows third party sites to fetch that information and compile it to display builds, skill and items usage

I feel that this would be awesome in Diablo4, wether it’s by Blizzard themself or left to third party sites

It’s awesome information to have

Do you guys want such informative system?

I don’t really care but lots of people like to flex or show it off for viewers when they stream so sure why not

No and yes. No because of griefers/stalkers and the harassment that comes with. Yes because sometimes it’s easier to reference/lookup things when I’m not playing.

As long as it can be set to private then sure I have no issue.

Yep any logical dev would make such feature with the option to private your profile

I really hope D4 has such feature

It would allow people to generate statistics on the game like

% of people above certain level

% of people playing X class

Class distribution

Item distribution

Build guides

yes it is great. Ive used this information ALOT on PoE. So PoE.ninja tracks the top 15000 characters by levels.

And you can see % how many are playing a Raider or Berserker or anything else. You can search for skill usage. Lets say i want to play Cyclone (whirlwind) you can look up that up that skill and see oh 15% of Whirlwind users are Duelists and 10% are Occultists. You see how they build for it, how they use it. Same with items, and support gems.

Although for D4 most of the info i use it for is irrelevant since there is just no flexibility in D4 when were comparing cross class usage. Like Whirlwind can only be used by 1 class. Items are restricted to that 1 class etc.

Anything that can access any of my data should require explicit consent, and yes, even a character name is my data. So, while it might be a neat feature, it definitely needs to be visible and made opt-in (default to turned off so users have to enable it if they want it, not have to turn it off.)

Man I miss the days when people just played a game to play a game. Very few gamers enjoy playing a game via trial and error to learn what works the best for them. Now a days, most people just want builds given to them, instead of exploring their options.

Yeah people might come after you when they find out you have a level 6 necromancer called Spookers

I’m not fussed on it personally but if the game is decently complex then it could be useful.

I do find it a little funny that this thread talks about viewing the character profile like PoE yet D3 also totally had this feature.

Setting to private would be good, this was missing from Overwatch when OW launched and people did end up harassed over their profiles unfortunately :frowning:

For once I agree with cheetah

It takes a special kind of paranoia to consider a video game character as private personal information lol

That’s a very grumpy purist way to look at it

This has other benefits other than copying other people builds

You can use it to compare with other people that went a similar route as you

I used Poeninja a lot to see what is the least popular and try to build something decent out of it just for challenge

Clearly, some people miss this very unimportant element:

“explicit consent” – which means, as noted, that Blizzard, ‘the entity’ must disclose that they collect and use it, upfront and clearly stated, preferably among the first few bullet points of said disclosure… rather than hidden deep in the bowels of a toilet.

Try some comprehension. It does wonders.

Your character name and data don’t belong to you. They Belong to Blizzard. That does not require your consent.

Use of your real life personal data requires notification and consent.

Reading comprehension is an important thing though, I agree.

Legally, it does require our consent.

We give away our rights, AFTER we agree with the EULA.

When a new EULA comes out noone can play one of Acti-Blizzards games, until they agree before logging in.

Actually, their EULA is one of the most binding and selfish pieces of legal paper ever written.

You don’t have a game character until after you agree to the EULA. You gave away nothing - you had no rights to that character prior to the EULA. I mean, the character does not even exist before you agree to the EULA, install the game, and create it on Blizzard’s servers.

Seriously, game characters are not personalty identifiable real life information and we don’t have any rights to them. Not in any way, nor would it be expected.

Your real life personal information is, however, protected by law. No EULA can take that away from you.

But being on the Web we give away our info with every new page we load.

Also to use a smartphone today in this world we give away everything to use it.

Anyone using social media gives it all away even faster.

We live in bizarre times.

Some people do give away that info. Others do not put real info into social media, don’t use their smart phone for personal business, turn off GPS, use VPNs, etc.

Unfortunately a lot of very shady companies have used those platforms to farm user data and sell it for nefarious purposes.

There are valid reasons I don’t have any public social media. I don’t do phone apps. I don’t have smart devices in my house. I don’t use UBER. Etc.

To be clear, this part of the EULA is not in the EU version.
